Heya,

Well, I finally got a new guitar... here she blowssss!
Image

Plays like a dream, feels like a dream, I love my new Strat Deluxe.

I don't know a lot about pickups, so I'm asking those who know this guitar, or know pickups, what would be a good replacement pickup; that is, if I even NEED one!

I play Blues, Classic Rock, Rock, Pop, and possibly a little Country, once I have time to learn. :p

Thanks,
KRAD

you're really jumping the gun, thinking about new pickups.
in my opinion (for whatever that is worth,) you need to play the snot out of your guitar. then, after you are familiar with the axe, and how it sounds, you will know what, if any, changes in sound you might like. it is at that point that you can start evaluating what pickups you might like to put in.

Those were my initial thoughts, thanks.

I can't say there is anything I dislike about my guitar, so I'll stay in the moment and play the crap out of it.

Thanks,

KRAD

Yea, what's wrong with the pickups in it? You said it plays like a dream. They dont really make pickups that play better than a dream.

Yeah, I agree that you should at least play it long enough to know what could even be improved at all. I don't think I've played one of those Deluxes, but I would assume the stock pups sound pretty good already. Maybe change the humbucker at some point simply b/c there are so many options for humbucker tones that'll increase tonal versatility when combined w/ the SCs, but if it ain't broke...

Well, he said and it sure looks like an American Deluxe HSS (or whatever it's called). American Fat Deluxe?

It's probably just my eyesight O. I can't tell if it has a contour heel or S-1 system. Mine also has one string tree. That's why I asked, thought it may be a deluxe plus. :) or what ever they call the MIM model. Nice guitar anyway! :)It does look as if it has the abalone fret markers though. Mine is a 07 and that's the reason I asked what year.

update - it appears that the HSS model comes without a string tree unlike the Ash SSS model.

You have some of Fenders best pickups in the SCN's (2) and a special wired humbucker. Very nice! 8)

Just eyeballing it, I definitely thought it was MIA from a few years ago. Dual-fulcrum bridge, pearloid fret markers, the Fender logo that doesn't suck, etc. :P

If the serial # doesn't tell us, the neck pocket might. Where's the screwdriver?! :D

Hah, thanks guys..
Yeah, it's a Fender Deluxe HSS Strat, from 08, I think.

Quick question: are there informative sites/magazines out there that can really teach a guy what's what with electric guitars? So that if I wanted to know ALL I would ever need to know about pickups, the site/magazine would tell me?

Thanks,

KRAD

You shouldn't need a pickup replacement because the texas specials and pearly gates are awesome you could add a push pull for even more tonal options

A good web site is www.stewmac.com and get a repair book authored by Dan Erlewine. He has great books on everything guitar. Google him. Hope this helps and Enjoy!! :)

A web site called Guitar Nuts (or something like that) has a lot on pickups.
Try Google to find even more.

I agree the pickups that guitar has should satisfy a guy. Try Lowering them. A Lot.

As for the MIA/MIM distinction at a quick glance, I don't think there are any Mexican models with 22 frets. Are there any with two-point trems?
