I float my strats.

I use a Tele for alternate tunings -- it still sounds very Fenderish!

On my doubleneck Strat, I keep the non-trem neck tuned to DGDGBE.

If there was one alternate tuning that I used a lot, I would keep a Strat set up for that tuning and never change it, but there isn't.
