I have a fat strat, serial # L032919. The chrome plated bolt on neck plate
says "Made in USA" but someone told me that the serial # is Japanese.
The s.n. is on the back of the neck -not on the headstock.

I bought it from an individual so there's no papers to prove anything,so I
am not sure it's even USA made anymore.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks much-

Michael

We'd be way too glad to help is there any chance of posting a picture.

I've never heard of a fender with the serial number on the back of the neck.

On the back of the neck? Not the back of the headstock?

My 85 MIJ has Made in Japan and serial # on the front of the headstock. I think I've seen some CIJ or later MIJ models with the # on back of the neck next to the heel.
:?:

Try going to www.provide.net and check

Sounds like a legit export only model based on that Fhop. I'd still like to see a picture or two though.

Infact it should be a rule here that upon membership you have to post a picture of your guitar.

The serial number is under the Fender decal in silver looking decal. You need to click on pic to enlarge it. I was saving space.

That sounds like a Japanese model with a replacement neck plate.

The serial number is on the back of the neck right where it attaches to the body, right? It should say "Made in Japan" right above the serial number.

Lite'nin' Hopkins, you don't have a poor guitar amongst your collection, do you? Very pretty Tele: what taste you have! How are you finding it next to your nice Strats?

Other then the serial number does it say Made in Japan or Crafted in Japan anywhere where on the neck?
