Hi Hammer2009.

Oh man - hurts, don't it?

My beautiful 2005 American Strat was a special purchase for me at the time. The first ding on that one near slayed me! And I'm not a "knock 'em about" type of guy. That ding is still almost the only one and kinda glares at me every day!

Oh dear - grow up, Ceri...!

Everyone else is gonna tell you: mojo. I guess you could try and look at it that way...

:? - C

haha!1 I am not laughing at you I am laughing with (only before,) you.

I remember putting the first ding in my Strat, 15 years or so ago, and it really bothered me. It still only has a few (like 3 or 4) little dings, and nothing big, but I remember that one every time i run a hand over it, and it just makes me chuckle about how upset I was.

Thanks for the replies, they've made me smile a little bit!

I never worried to much about dinging my old black MIM, it's been worked hard, shows it, and i love it for that (all the more so now with CS '69 pups in it!), but the Tobacco sunburst is a work of art, not only does it sound great, but it is just beautiful to look at, so this ding really really has hurt. Its pretty small, but I just can't understand how it happened, as I've been so careful with it...

i played my clapton strat at my church, and discovered that it had annoying zipper scratches on the back when i came home! i decided to embrace it as battle scars :\ not like I'm going to sell it anyways...someday I'll scratch through the finish and reach the wood! (hopefully before I die...)

Any guitar that gets played lots will invariably get dinged. I felt sick the first time I dinged my first guitar. It's a Cort dreadnought that has more or less become my main stage acoustic guitar. The back is covered in belt buckle marks, and the top and sides have their share of dings. I don't so much worry about it anymore, but I do try and avoid accidents. They add character and, eventually, you might find that they become part of the instrument. For my part, I can't envision my Cort or Les Paul (my main electric until I got my tele) without their scratches and dings.

Oh boy! Your dings would make me cry like a baby if they were on one of my guitars.

On the other hand, always good to see some pickups set nice and low like that. There's a lesson there for anyone as chooses to take it...

Cheers - C

BTW: that's exactly what the frogs in my pond are getting up to right about now...

Ive a problem. After the last gig i found the custom classic has 3 more dings. Nothing untoward just minor stuff on the forearm bevel and on the neck. Its stayed in the case since and i'm gassing for another customshop.

Any excuse eh?

heh... maybe it's a good thing that "relic" was the only finish available to me when I got my custom shop model. It's a nice job that I've come round to and maybe prefer in some ways... not least because I couldn't care less about any new dings I (or my one-year-old son) may put in it.

On the other hand, I got a chip much like orvilleowner's in the lower bout of a $5,000 nylon-string I've owned since 1988, and you can bet I cried over that one.

I wasn't really happy. I can still remember when that brown one hit the concrete floor ... :(

Low pickups, yes, you bet. I think it sounds better. I just let the amp work harder.
