I found this somewhere a while ago. Don't know how accurate it is. I find it helps to add a little mid and turn down the reverb.

Drive: 4
Mid: 2
Treble: 8
Bass: 6
Reverb: 7ish

yes, which i heard was his old ibanez with a strat neck on it that he got from either a tech or someone they toured with. he said rather than buy something new, he'd just play that until it was dead. i don't think he was so picky then, because he just wanted to be a rock star. but then when he sobered up, he was like, wait, i can be a rock star only if i play the coolest $@!&, and pretend like i don't think it's so cool!

I'm shure I haven't seen the ibanez past the 1st few gigs. On the Psichadelic Sexfunk from Heaven video we already see John using only fender strats. Easy to spot, as the ibanez had humbuckers and was rather pointy.

Sounds pretty dry as far as reverb. Lots of highs and mids, but he gets a nice crunch, too. The page I found that lists his gear is a little shakey on how he sets his gain.

He sets it pretty high, it's on that link I posted.

I had to learn Dani California and found this:

I wish more bands did videos like this one!

Like a few people have said, his sound is extremely simple. Just use the neck pickup of a strat. I've heard he uses seymour duncan antiquities. Amp wise, A Marshall Major 200-watt and a Marshall Jubilee (I'm pretty sure it's actually a 25/50) are his main amps. He also uses Marshall cabs with the stock celestion speakers. On blood sugar, he used an Ibanez WH-10 wah pedal. I'm not completely sure about his amp settings, but most of his awesome tone comes from technique. If you really wan't to emulate his sound, I suggest studying some live performances of his.

he doesn't use antiquities, those my friend are '62 strat pickups. that dude doesn't use anything that isn't vintage except straps and picks.

when he lost his first 62 strat, his 65 mustang, and his 66 jaguar in a fire (1995?) he didn't have an electric until flea bought him that 62 burst as an incentive to re-join in 98.

Yeah sorry to disagree but there have been interviews that he did say he uses Seymour Duncans in both his '62 and '55 (or is it a '57?).

That's what i thought. Its a '57 by the way. I'm pretty sure he has a '55 as well, but the 2-tone burst with maple fretboard that he uses in concerts is a '57.

I remember reading an interveiw with Rick Rubin around the time Blood Sugar came out. He said that alot of the real dry clean sounds that John got were a result of plugging directly into the old school mixing board they used to record the tracks with. Strat to cable to board...period. That sounds like the "against the grain" type stuff John would go for honestly.

I heard they did it to use some of the own boards clipping to some solos (example: I Could Have Lied solo), but it sounds way wrong to me (the ideia, not the tone).

Gilmour's solo on Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 was done by d.i.'ing his Les Paul Goldtop straight to the board. People have been doing it for years.

I was listening to this last night, and thinking that there was no way this was a Stratocaster.
