I owned one of those $1200 Mahogany Strats that Guitar Center carries exclusively for a day and I LOVED the contoured heel on the body where the neck attaches that makes for easier access to the top frets ...

As soon as I find a strat that has that contoured heel, a bridge humbucker and a 12" fretboard radius I'm buying.

I'll look through the website again, but since the mahogany strat isn't on the website I don't know where in the specs Fender would state which guitars have that contoured heel feature.

Anyone know of an Alder strat with the contoured heel?

thanks!

American Deluxe HSS. But you're still getting a 9.5" radius. Best I can do.

FENDER PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

12" fretboard radius with the contoured heel!!
Also gotta have 22 frets and a humbucker in the bridge. :)

American Deluxe HSS, replace neck with warmoth compund radius neck.... hmm... too expensive.

Does Fender have a comments area? Otherwise I have no choice but to build this thing myself using USA Custom Guitar or Warmoth parts (since they offer the contoured heel).

What is the 9.5 fretboard radius good for that the 12" is not I wonder?
I guess it is more comfortable for chording?
thanks for your response!

Now that I have completely plastered this board with my posts I'm going to bed! :)

Hey, good idea! Except I can't afford that...

Since I already have a strat as a primary guitar and I want a guitar with easy upper fret access... I figure I might as well try out a different sound.

For $600 The PRS SE has no upper fret access problems, since it's not a bolt-on.

It seems like Fender is only offering the contoured heel on its most expensive models- as an incentive to get the better strat, but that seems like tunnel vision to me because they aren't in a vaccumm just competing with themselves (the cheaper Fender strats without the contoured heel)- they are competing with the PRS SEs out there too.

It can't be very difficult to throw a body on the sander and give it that ever so slightly contoured heel. Ever American made strat should have it, at a minimum (not including the relic or retro strats obviously).

It's too expensive for me too, but I'm saving up. $100 so far.

You could try Warmoth.com, maybe they have that for a body option, I don't know for sure. Or you could try and sand it down yourself.

Yeah warmoth and USA Custom guitars have that option.

You know, I never even thought about sanding it down myself!!! I was thinking about getting a new body, but this is just a '97 mexi strat with a cheap poplar body- why not sand it myself? I kind of feel like an idiot now, to be honest. Yeah, it's not like I'm gonna hurt this cheezy body!

I just need to make sure I use shorter screws! :)
