Hi Mike: never needed to.

Frankly, if the neck pocket is routed flat and to the correct depth (and why wouldn't it be, with modern production methods?) there's little likelyhood of wanting to re-orient the neck.

Only Strat I've ever shimmed (with a veneer) is an old Squier body - and that may have more to do with the aftermarket bridge I have in there now rather than the body or new neck.

No, and you probably don't want to know why but of course I'm gonna tell you why. :D
I used to be a guitar tech at a mom and pop store and back then most of the guitars needed shimmed to get super low action. I've seen the microtilt used several times by guys that brought there axes in and most of them didn't know what they were doing so the neck was actually crooked at the bottom because when they tightened down the screws one side was tighter that the other. If you use a thin pick broke in half you can't "twist" the neck at the heel.

It's a Wilkinson VS-100. I like it very much - but it does seem to sit a little high on it's mounting posts. Hence the need for a thin shim.

Both of my strats have them but I've never had to use them.

have it on mine. don't use it., I just don't see why i would. if i need a shim, I will make one, and I will make sure it is perfectly stable, I just don't see how the micro tilt could be as stable.

very informative thread. was considering using the micro tilt to get lower action, but after looking at images of it online, i dont like the idea of a round bolt, thats not the width of the neck altering the angle.

i mean, if its not the width of the neck, theres a chance that one side of the neck could be slightly lower than the other, and even if its only a fraction of a mm, these are the scales we are working with when lowering action so every bit helps.

If i ever end up altering the neck angle, il shim it i think, rather than use the micro tilt. i had almost decided that before this thread but now im certain.

thanks all

Never been lucky enough to own one.

I'd use it as i'm picky over neck pitch.

Nah, never used them, but, when I was taking apart a strat to re-finish and the screw came out, had to look all over the back porch for the stupid thing - - does that count?
