I hope something similar to this hasnt been posted before.
Well, what dont you like about the strat and why?
Personally I think my strat is perfect and nothing is better, but I'm asking for your opinion about stratocasters in general. (Of course you can say what you like and dont like about your own too)

First, welcome to the forum Ossy. Hope you enjoy your stay here. Probably the worst thing I don't like about a stock Strat are the staggered pole pickups.. Other than that I think they rock. 8) Mike

The thing I like the least is the 60 cycle hum from the single coil pu's. That said, it's such an easy fix its almost a non-issue.

Hi Ossy, welcome to the Forum.

As a solution to a problem I think the string tree(s) a bit of a compromise.

'Part from that, the Strat's a flippin' work of art! Form following function to industrial design perfection.

Eat your heart out, Walter Gropius! (Huh?)

Cheers - C

Ossy:……..welcome to the Forum…..
First of I love most things about the strat. I dig the position of the jack plug, the weight of the guitar, the feel of the neck thickness, positioning of the switch and knobs are great…..things I don’t care for include////the single coil pickups (not saying they are no good) I just prefer a heaver /puncher sound without too many effects to get what I want…I sure wish the strings were closer together like on my Les Paul. Seem on that guitar I can pick more fluently and faster. On the other hand I can bend further and put a lot more vibrato on the strat strings with a bit more spacing so I guess it works out. Over all I believe it is a very versatile instrument with few flaws, (personal preference) again the single coil pickups are not the greasiest for metal but are good for most all else. (bottom line is you are not going to find a better suited guitar for all ranges of music….It is not the most copied guitar on the planet for nothing……..

Well my other prefered guitar is an SG, and is also the guitar I first played. What I dislike about my strat is the proximity of the volume knob to the high e, it gets in the way when I'm playing rhythm close to the bridge.

Man, I hate to gripe, cuz there's so much that' right about the Stratocaster. Sure the 60 cycle hum, but my Dimarzio Area pickups solved that.

My only other gripe is the positioning of the volume knob and the the selector switch. I'm constantly bumping the volume knob while playing and turning it down. Grrrrr. Also tend to bump the selector switch and find myself on the wrong pickup a lot of the time. Never happens on my Telecaster FMT.

On the other hand, the volume know is very well positioned for volume swells, which I use fairly often.

I don't think there's anything I didn't like about the strat. Quality control seems very consistent with the American standard line. The volume knob for me is perfect. It's there to quick turn the volume as well as do swells.
