Hi,

Is there some way to figure out the guitars history from the serial number? I have an old - pre 1982 strat. I was hoping this website could help but I haven't seen anything on this. Thanks for reading this. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum.

All the serial number will tell you is a year and place your guitar was made.

Thanks for the responses. I think from comparing the serial to other strats it was made sometime between 1976-1978. Prolly 77. The decal says Made in USA. I bought that guitar from a girl in 1982 and took it around the world with me. It was my only guitar for a long time so it needs some frets! It took a dive a few years back lost the 5th fret and has a crack behind the headstock. I still play it sometimes. haha. Really makes you rething things when you don't have a 5th fret. sometimes come up with new approaches. I think it could be sanded and glued and be just fine. I want to keep the neck if possible cuz I really really like it and I want to keep it original.

You have to post some picture of that, couchguitarist, please!

I would say that it deserves to see a good luthier who'll repair it for you. Maybe give it all new frets, it will live again, be better than new!
