Depends on the model. A standard uses up to 7, a reissue uses 3. Any finish that is transparent like sunburst also has a vanere.

Do mexico make reissues. As far as i'm aware the transparent finish's use multiple pieces with a veneer over the top and back. On solid colours who knows. Probably 3 maybe 5. Much more than that may cause instability without a veneer applied. Not sure on that though.

They could probably use a dozen pieces and it would be stable. Whoever has supplied the wood for Fender does a real good job of aging it and gluing it together. Have you ever (EVER?) seen a Fender body that has cracked or split or warped?* Me neither.

Hey, got any pictures of veneered up Mexican body blanks?

* and I'm not talking about the sad things leftover from a Ritchie Blackmore or Yngwie destruction act. I think most of those aren't Fender anyway (see, there is a use for Chinese fake Strats!)!!!

They do. I have a MIM with a 57 reissue body, and 60 reissue neck, it was called a AIMM 5760. Its definitely a 3 piece body with a laminate veneer on the top. I've seen mexican's with the finish removed, it had 7 pieces, it had been a solid color.

How could you tell there were 3 pieces under the veneer?

Not speaking for Windwalker, but the veneer covers only the top and bottom, not the sides. So you could tell most easily by looking at the "bottom side", where the cross section of all the pieces including the veneer would be visible, right?

Dunno Eibach the sides are usually solid coloured on sunbursts do mexico do any other transparent finish's. I look at my baja tele and its nearly transparent. Like it was meant to be but things needed covering up. It weighs nearly 10ilbs too. The sides to it are solid block yellow.

The veneer was only on the top piece, on the bottom you can see the seams for the 3 pieces.

On the bottom? You mean the bottom edge, where the strap button is attached? It's not black?

I suppose that even if it's black (or other solid color), sometimes you can still see the seams underneath when you hold it just right to the light.

Yeah, that was what I trying to express. You guys caught Windwalker's "with the finish removed" comment, right? We are not talking about seeing thru the finish.

Nope , still depends on the finish.

I did not interpret his comments regarding his "MIM with a 57 reissue body, and 60 reissue neck, it was called a AIMM 5760. Its definitely a 3 piece body with a laminate veneer on the top." as being one of the guitars he has seen without the finish.

We could wish that were true, but very few MIA are one-piece. The best bodies go to the Custom Shop.

Then maybe it is me confusing the matter. I'll shut up now.
