Don't try to start a flamewar. I, for one, prefer rosewood on my guitars, but maple is nice too. Coke and Pepsi much?

Hello Iandestreza,

I still haven't located a rosewood model
that I can take for a test drive, I'm looking forward to it.
I really like the maple Johnson's, they play nice
and have a nice tone.
From what I've been told I don't have to wonder
about getting either or any new guitar.

Cheers.

I understand that some people can't afford the E.J.'s but most are saying how great this guitar to have. By the way Dweezil Zappa own a maple and now his thinking about getting a RW E.J's, that my friend is just a taste. PRICELESS 8). "When the sun meets the sky"

true, but not anymore according to what he says he'd rather play his new sig. strat than the old one. check it out at youtube. To see is to believe also much better when you hear the feedback from the actual person. 8)

I saw Dweezil w/Zappa Plays Zappa in Anaheim on 3/3...he played a sb EJ model w/a maple neck....and it sounded amazing!

I've played both and I prefer the sound and feel of the maple over rosewood.

wait a couple years, and see what he really plays, when the marketing push for the new one is over.

to me once an artist has an endorsement deal i no longer entirely trust their opinions.

Totally, couple into it that they only have to use their free signature guitars live and can play anything in the studio as long as you dont get to know what.

I've been a longtime believer that a few artists aren't entirely happy with their endorsement deal guitars and then start making stipulations that certain aspects are not for guitars available to the public. The EC strat colour fiasco for one. I seriously cant believe that he prefers vintage noiseless pickups over every other pickup in the world. Everyone else seems to hate them. Its far more believable that theres another pickup under the VN cover.

Well, once the artist is given the guitars, he or his tech can make a lot of changes that no one would ever notice or know about.

First off, I have to say, I've grown into a tone chaser in the last year or so, constantly moding my strat, and I've found imo that the eric johnson strat is the best non-custom shop I've played. That being said I am partial to rosewood necks, except on the Eric Johnson. That is the only strat I would prefer with the maple. I think the two tone body with the quarter sawn, heavy tinted neck looks perfect.

I generally agree with this, as artists signature models have just a unique feature here and there, but that's about it. Not in this case. It's a damn near perfect guitar. How come most of us on this board been praising the EJ strat more so than any other artist sig? That's insane (in a good way)! EJ is well known for being a perfectionist and pickyness more so than other guitarists I've seen. If you check out the specs on the EJ, you'd know it's been over engineered with every little detail put into it from the ground up. I gotta say that it's one of the best guitars Fender has ever put out thanks to EJ.

Im really regretting not getting the EJ strat last year when it was $1700, now that its $2300! The whole world is experiencing deflation, except Fender Musical Instruments.

DiMarzio HS-2's.

At least according to the ad from a couple years ago. He's mentioned it in a few interviews a couple years back as well.
