I just finised putting together my latest strat project. I now remember why I haven't played convetional Strat's in a while, The sound is not fat enough for me. What are you guys and gals out there in Fender land using? I mainly use it for the heavier side of rock and blues. I'm using my Fender Two Tone that has been hand wired to a copy of a Matchless Lightning with a DS-1. Any input would be appreciated. :D

If your goal is getting a fatter tone, check out Fender Texas Specials. They got me exactly what I was after. :)

What else can you tell me about your project?

What body? What neck? What components? Circuitry?

I like to think about the "theme" of the guitar...

MIM 50's Dapne Blue body, alder, late 80's Jackson parts neck flame maple with rosewood fret board with 60's logo, vintage trem, parchment guard and knobs. looks alot like a custom shop 60's guitar.

I put CS '69s in my partsocaster, but by next one is going to be a very "hard" and vintage sound....everything as dense as I can go. For this next project, Im going maple all around and fat...12" radius neck and maybe a brass nut. I want it hard. Then I thought I'd drop in vintage 54s or the Fat 50's.

Cant say I see a clear theme in your component choices, but you mentioned it "looks like a custom shop 60's guitar". Maybe you should consider the CS '69s?

Is there a sound or famous player you are thinking about with this guitar?

Think Daphne Blue '62 Strat with rosewood fb as a "theme". The neck does have a Fender headstock. As i mentioned I want a BIG metal sound, the next guitar I'm building is a Dave Murray style like the his signiture model so i'll have the Maiden sound covered. I think Blackmoreish tone is what i'm looking for on this one.

Right now, Ritchie is using Silver Lace Sensors in his strats. The model Fender put out was based on one he used in the 80's. They used Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders for that. When I saw Deep Purple on the House of Blue Light/Slaves and Masters tours, he had two double blade pu's in the neck and bridge positions (he's never used the middle pu). Whether they were DiMarzio's or SD's, I've never been able to tell. But since '93 he's been using the Lace Sensors.

And yes, I'm a MAJOR Blackmore fan, even met him a few times 8)
