Hi all, I'm new to Fender ownership, so I'm new to the forum as well, LOL... Anyway, I just recently accquired a used Fender Japan strat in Antigua Burst, and I love the guitar and the finish... the only problem is that a previous owner did some heavy mods to it, some of which I would like to reverse. It was used upside down by a lefty, and all (!) of the knobs and pots were removed, and replaced with chrome rivets of some sort. The nut was replaced with a brass nut, and the strangest thing is the change in pickups and wiring... the 5 way switch was replaced with a 3 way, and the bridge pickup was routed out to accomodate an EMG 81. Active, of course, while the mid and neck pups are still the factory passive models. The switch down activates the EMG, in the middle it is a kill switch, and up, it activates the neck and middle pickups together... which sounds to my ears like they are wired out of phase, because the output is super low.

Anyway, I want to return it to a more conventional wiring scheme, with a set of these:

My problem is that I can't seem to find a matching replacement pickguard anywhere... does anyone know where I might find a pickguard in the matching antigua burst finish, without paying Warmoth $75 to paint one?

Thanks in advance, and here's the pics:

Wow. That is a really cool Strat.

Here is a suggestion for your pickguard problem. For the time being, just get a standard pickguard (black would look good). Load this standard pickguard as desired. and get the git playing the way you want. Then - in parallel - always be on the watch in eBay or CL for the antigua pickguard you really want; it is only a matter of time till one shows up. Then when you get the antigua pickguard, change over the existing electronics to the antigua one.

Just a thought...

That's not a bad idea... my other plan was to get the Lace pups, and just hold on to the bridge model until I find the guard. In the meantime, I have a Gibson Burstbucker 2 I can put in the bridge. Not necessarily a "stratty" pickup per se, but should have much more feel to it than the EMG that's in it now at least. Besides, being a predominantly Les Paul player, I will probably like the sound, at least until I can get the single back in it. I'm just a stickler for looks, when it comes to guitars. Hence why I searched out the Chrome Domes, I wanted chrome covered pickups like a Tele neck model, but Tele pickups won't fit strats. The Chrome Domes should sound great too, based on reviews...

Yeah, I doubt that he will beat that.

I thought you reposted the address I gave just to tell him the price!

LOL... the warmoth thing was a guess, I know they charge $75 to paint guards, but I wasn't sure they could match the color exactly. I did google it, but I was searching "Fender Japan antigua burst pickguard" and that page didn't come up in what I found, at least not the first 4 or 5 pages. A different result led me to a post on the old fender forum, which then led me here. :)

Thanks for the help guys, that $40 one looks like the winner, LOL!

I doubt you could find one at your local shop anyway. Well at least not with the rest of the guitar attached to it. Waiting for shipping sucks...

Warmoth started making an Antigua guard when they started offering the Antigua paint job. I don't know what they would charge for the guard. It's just a couple clicks away if you want to find out for sure.

I actually got a pretty sweet deal, I traded a Chinese counterfeit Gibson semihollowbody Les Paul that I bought on craigslist for $300, straight up for the Strat, traded with my other guitar player in my band. The Paul just sounded too muddy through my Mesa, but it sounded great through his Marshall. He's happy, and I'm super stoked. Of course, I'll spend another 200 bucks to get her where I really want her, but I could technically play her out tomorrow, as is.

Anyway, I went ahead and bought the switch and pots to put her back as close to normal as I can, just with the burstbucker for now... If I can sell my Epiphone Paul for what I want, then I'll buy the pups and guard and take this baby back to SSS glory with the chrome domes. Until then, il'l just rock with the bucker for now, and the stock singles.
