Welcome to the Forum.

I have not seen any for sale. I think most people make their own.

OR

Put in 5 springs, and tighten the screws for the claw until the back of the bridge sits firmly on the body.

+1 :)

Thank you for that drawing, beauty.

What are the downsides to trem blocking, besides the obvious?

Downside: I suppose if you gave the bridge a hard wack there is the slight possibility of that wood block shifting, maybe coming loose, perhaps even falling out. Consequent failure of the guitar, mid performance. Can't recall ever hearing of that happening, though.

Some people positively like the sound they think the springs contribute to their strings' tone; others believe the springs can cause a slight kind of reverb effect, perhaps unwanted sympathetic vibrational overtones. So the option to remove the springs would allow control of that.

Good luck - C

Yes, I thought I noticed some sound change... I got my springs tight and my guitar sounds somewhat more squished, like it's lost some of the jingle jangle. Now I'm not sure if the sacrifice was worth it. Wasn't all that hard to tune with the float. I tend palm mute on the bridge a bit, though...

I spent a long time last night and this morning looking around the Callaham site and all I can say is all hardware for my next project is going to be from him. Plus, I'm ordering the shorter "Gilmour" trem arm for my black strat!

Hi again x2mars: if it's simply palm muting that's the issue then instead of blocking the trem try just setting it flush to the timber.

From the floating position tighten the claw screws till the back of the trem plate comes down and touches the face of the body. Then the whole plate should be sitting flat to the wood - but only just. Don't tighten the claw screws any further than that point.

You'll then need to reintonate the strings and possibly re-set the heights of the saddles too, because your action might have changed a touch.

Now you will find that you can still use your trem to down-bend but it won't up-bend when you rest your palm on the back of it. Pitch stability and vibrato shimmer - what could be better?

If you prefer to get a tech do it for you just ask him to set your trem "flush": he'll know what it means.

Good luck - C

That's the way I have my MIA Deluxe set up and it never gives me any problems and has a great sound(to me). I had a tech do mine though.
