Hello
I just purchased a 97 california strat (black w/ tinted maple neck -sss). IT seems the information I can find on these short lived guitars is a little sketchy at best. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a few good articles about these guitars?

Ive only had it for a day but WOW....great guitar

bought mine new in 1997. have the black also. has the vintage hardware, tex-mex pickups. only made about 2 yrs then stopped production. very similar to the 62 re-issue strat.
very sweet playing and sounding strat. you can google california series strat and might find some more info.
if you don't mind me asking about what price range did you find it for. have seen some wanting lots of money.
don't have to answer if you don't want though. enjoy it. wouldn't get rid of mine for anything.

Ok, if it says build in California and build in Mexico and the specs are the same. How do you know which one you got?

Maybe by the serial number prefix.

It's confusing then to have the same model built in 2 such places because in this case it greatly affects retail value.

the only thing done in mexico was the body was painted then shipped back to U.S. for the rest. The guitar is labeled "made in usa"
