If you know how to really dial in the set-up on a guitar, and can do nice, neat soldering inside...

Then Warmoth, by a mile. I've A-b'ed 3 different CS guitars that I really really wanted to like (because they was so pretty) against my Warmoth-caster, and the Fenders got crushed every time.

To be fair, I've been playing this guitar for a long time, and I've got it set up like a Formula 1 car... but there's no reason you can't create an awesome guitar from Warmoth parts at a cost far less than a CS axe, because you're doing all the expensive work.

I agree. You can build exactly what you want from Warmoth and learn something about your guitar while your doing it.

Dont get me wrong. I LOVE Fender and I would marry my MIJ if I could. But, my next guitar will no doubt me a Warmothcaster. Its the best way to go for the Ultimate custom.

Gotta opt for customshop. Ive never played a guitar with such a high level of response than my (cheapo by CS standards) custom classic. Now i'm not saying the right person couldnt better it for less. But as my guitars go its built like a tank and does what its told when i tell it to, thats all i need.

I have a bit of a hankering to do a Warmoth project myself, and when costing it out, with 1 pce body and the finest grades of wood and best parts it came out a lot cheaper than a Fender. I just don't know if I trust myself enough not to ruin all those top spec parts when putting it all together, wherein lies the rub!

Synkronized,

If you want to build it yourself, Warmoth is the way to go and you get to have fun putting it together yourself. I like Warmoth parts, once replaced a neck on one of my old guitars I used to have. I wished I would have kept that neck (uh...I mean guitar). RK

Not to put Fender down in anyway, but Warmoth seems to give a bit more flexibility in the options. Especially in hardware and paint.

Plus they put your name on it. lol

I wouldn't think using Warmoth is knocking Fender. They do have an agreement with Warmoth and I'm sure they collect licensing fees. And besides, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. 8)

I dont see any option on warmoth's site that allows you to specify builder. Great parts or not its very easy to muck it up.

I for one will leave my Custom Shop quality guitars to the pros at Fender. Not only a lifetime warranty but free repairs, shipping, etc, and a Fender decal to boot. But that's just me.

I'm of the same mind mate. As much as i hate guitar snobbery theres a quality to customshop guitars that is hard to pin down to one particular aspect other than overall quality. Even my favourite MIM hardly gets a look in these days and the hotrod hasnt been out the case for 3 weeks. My only problem now is finding guitars that i want to play as much.

Hello Synkronized,

Sure enough Warmoth has some
pretty tatsy components but If I
had the Do-Re-Mi I would spring
for the Custom Shop made guitar.

There is a custom shop dealer close
by and I like what I've seen.

Best of luck on your choice.

Cheers.

If it's a Custom Shop built order maybe yes. If it's a Custom Shop Model thats team built, for that money Warmonth.

I think I heard Mike say the other day that there were no more called teambuilt. It's either Masterbuilt or Custom Shop. He also said Todd K. was more or less the lead man on the Gilmour. I guess it's all semantics though. :)
Mike's statement is about half way down this page in an answer to me.
