I use a '59 Bassman. I'm getting a Blues Jr. so I'll use that more.

If you're in the market I suggest that. that or a princeton reverb (after swapping out the tube if you don't like the sound)

I cheat. Line 6 turned to "Blues" and neck pick up (sometimes). Sounds pretty good though.

Hi aldric_m: I use the middle "crunch" channel on my three channel Marshall Triple Super Lead. A hundred watts of sheer tube driven heavy cream!

Cheers - C

Anything. Your fingers do the work. Theres so much scope within the blues genre that you cant boil it down to one amp. For a driven zztop sound i use a marshall jcm for pete green sounds i use the marshall again. For clean blues i use my vibrochamp xd. Aside from the super high gain bogner's or krank's ive never heard a amp give a bad blues sound, even solid state. Its all in the way you set em.

At the moment:

1979 Strat->Byang Fuzz->TS9 modded->TS9 modded->Dunlop Wah->Rosac NuWa->Fender Champ Tweed clone

You might have noticed I am missing a reverb unit, still looking for that a trying to decide what cab to get.

I am currently using a Fender Princeton Chorus Amp on the drive channel. I use a Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive to boost it a little bit. Its as close as I can get to a bluesy sound.

And even then... Walter Becker uses those Bogner heads, and he doesn't sound all metal-head fizzy.

You are correct. There's no such thing as a "blues" amp, or a "blues" guitar.

+1 blues tone dosnt come from your amp or axe it comes from you and your fingers i use 1 amp for every thing (72 50 watt bass man head through a 64 1x15 cab with a jensen) and i play many styles

Ditto: In fact, on a post reply from Fender not too long ago, we were told that Clapton was actually using some of their '57 Twin Amps stock. So what ever you have that has good EQ possibilities and effects to your liking that you can tie into the signal chain to get a tone that pleases your ear...go for it.

Years ago I used to run a Fernandes Strat loaded with gold lace sensors through a Proco Rat into a '61 Fender Concert and got this creamy, bluesy sustain to die for. My brother-in-law used to run an ancient Gibson Melody Make that look like death warmed over, through an original issue Tube Screamer into a Bassman head and enclosure for the same effect......and that's just the beginning.

As Niki says....from Allman to ZZTop, and everything in between, you'll find something in the blues. 8)

Doc

Hey StratHeads-

I think you really need to take an afternoon and go try out some gear at the local Guitar Shop. I agree with the post that a lot of the blues feel and sound comes from your fingers (your approach and attack)- I do understand the need for gear that help you produce the tone you are looking for.

I use my Hot Rod Deluxe for the Blues and Classic Rock that I play and I love it. The Clean is like butter....and the crunch in its drive channels is exactly what I want- I also Installed Texas Specials in my Strat which are damn nice- Lots of mid range, Great Bass - with a classic Fender tone. (No...You wont sound like SRV..only SRV sounds like SRV...but you will get that nice overall tone)

Only you can find your tone...so go forth and play..

The Freeze
