Hey.
I'd like to make my strat look more "aged", like those in the "road worn" series. What is the best way to do this? You know, wear off the paint?
I have heard that the best way is by using a dry/wet cloth and some sandpaper, but I don't want to ruin it.

Any suggestions is most appreciated.

Btw, I'm from Norway, so if there are any misspellings in here, just deal with it :p

Just play the snot out of it and don't polish it or clean it. Most of the do it yourself stuff looks fake. The Road Worn stuff looks fake too especially between the frets.
If you want to, just buy a real cheap Squire and experiment. Soaking the plastic parts in strong tea helps and Coke A Cola can rot the bridge parts pretty fast. On the body, don't take paint off where your body won't naturally touch it when you play. Some of the finishes are pretty tough to remove. Nitro's the easiest.

There are some good threads here of people who relic'd their Strats. Do a search on "relic". The threads have a lot of info in them.

You can put your guitar for rent and after two months it will look really worn out

In like 89 or 90 a buddy and I rented some fresh outta the box marshalls for a couple gigs.
Good thing the place we rented from was notoriously lax at inspecting gear when you brought it back
Covered with beer rings, and the other guy knocked the head off of his speaker cabinets, and all the knobs were stuck onto the pots with tinfoil from a cigarette package.
We rented a smoke machine too, when we tried returning it, the store didn't have any record of it, and wouldn't take it back. The only record was our rental receipt, which I lost, and didn't find until years later, stuffed into my bass's gig bag, which was only along for the ride as a backup, cus our bass player had been having trouble with his bass, and wanted it there as a back up just in case. I still have the machine somewhere in my basement.

They let you keep the smoke machine or did you have to pay for it?

let me keep it. in fact they were adamant it wasn't theirs. Took back the amps, and sent me on my way.

That's awesome!

Maybe I should rent a Custom Shop Fender Strat and "misplace" the receipt.

might want to travel back in time, to when there were still some stores that didn't track inventory with a computer.
