You may have gotten a heavier guage set of strings, and the guitar was set for lighter strings. You can compensate for the heavier strings by adding springs to the tremelo and/or adjusting the 2 screws that hold the trem claw inside the spring cavity. You must acheive a balance so the trem floats just above the face of the guitar, maybe 3/32" or so. You can also adjust it to lay flat against the body for more tuning stability, but no upward pull on the trem bar.

I think paisley strat is right... I had forgotten that heavier strings will pull the bridge up, and when I bought a guitar recently and routinely put new strings on it I went "Whut....?!" until I remembered that I always use 10 to 46, and the previous owner/store had probably put 9s on there.

I put all five springs in the tremelo cavity, as I prefer the bridge to sit flat anyway and don't use the whammy bar much. Instructions for doing that should be in the owner's manual that came with your guitar, or else they're available online somewhere around the Fender site.

P.S. ... Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum.

Just adjusting the height of the back of the bridge will not be enough. You need a complete setup. By putting on heavier strings you have also changed the amount of tension on the neck, so neck relief will have to be adjusted. Then when you adjust the bridge the action and intonation will have to be adjusted.

And make sure you loosen the strings before you add tension back.

Hey StratHeads-

Are you planning on doing the setup yourself? Its not very hard and there are many site on the web that will show you how. Just remember to be patient and take it slow your first time. Small adjustments make a whole lot of difference.

Truss Rod, Bridge / Tremelo, intonation, and relief...all need to be done when you change string gages or after every several 100 miles on your guitar (Whichever comes first) Look at this as a tune up for your guitar and as such....it is much cheaper to do the work yourself.
