Hey guys, i was just wondering what you all "prefer" as far as neck relief is concerned. I play a variety of music, and just went thru the setup on my 06 MIM standard, and I set it up to very close to MIA standard specs, .010 neck relief at 7th fret, and 4/64" action height at the 7th fret. I set my trem to just barely be up off the body, enough for about a 1/2 step up-bend with the trem arm, I dont like much more than that unless its a floyd rose...I found that I really like it this way, most would call that a fairly generous amount of relief, and probably a "medium" action height. I was just curious to see what you guys prefer....

I don't measure. I like my necks as flat as possible and action extremely low. So it is a matter of experimenting with each guitar.

I prefer slightly less relief than fender spec's dont ask me what cos i dont know, i dont find feeler gauges accurate for measuring. Action sitting at 1.5/64's or 3/128's on the high E rising to 3/32s on the low E.

Hello Indianmike,

For me I like things a bit on the higher side
being that I'm mostly a strummer. It seeems
to keep stringbuzzing to a minimum.

Cheers.

I don't measure, but I like it somewhere between medium and high. I think that low action on a Strat just feels weird for some reason.

I like to start out using Fender specs for Strats, and then go from there. Each of my Strats is set up a little different.
I usually go for a perfectly straight neck, and then add a little relief if I have excess fret buzz or rattle. Some frets are worn more on some guitars, and the fret profiles are different. I just get it to where the action is as low as I can get it, but still have a nice clear tone. Play with your string height and truss rod adjustment to get the set up that feels good in your hands, and sounds good to your ears.

+1 I go as low and straight as the guitar will let me.... I LOVE a very straight neck with almost no relief I think the strings vibrate way longer when the neck is very straight hehe

:)
