Hi; I have a purple Fender Strat with a dull purple finish and black pickguard. Is this stock?

There were some satin type finish standards around a couple of years ago...is it a bit plummy?

Yep, "Plum" would describe the color. I guess "satin" describes the finish better than "dull". Does anybody know how to care for the finish?

Hi saddleboogie: from your description most of us are thinking of the Highway One Strat, which features a satin nitrocellulose finish. Though I'm not seeing that one on the list at the bottom of your posts...

If that finish is indeed satin then you need to clean it very carefully, because over time polishing it will smooth that satin to a gloss, which you presumably don't want. A dry cloth, plenty of hot breath and some light elbow grease are the best tools for the job. A little guitar polish such as Dunlop 65 or one of the many others can be used - sparingly.

On the other hand, if your guitar looks satin simply because it's very dirty - well then just polish it up vigorously!!

Cheers - C

Here's a Fender Wallpaper (reduced) of the Satin Finished Standard Stratocasters from a few years ago.

Is this what you thinking of ?

giljamus; yep it looks like the plum finish; has an ebony fingerboard, and black pickguard and "60" button back of the headstock. I got it in a trade a year or so ago. I'm a bass player but got the Strat 'cause, well, just 'cause I should have one. Really have not taken it out of the bag much. I'd like to put a bridge cover on it though because I lay my hand over the bridge.

Ceri; I'll try to keep it shined up with the breath and a cloth; like cleaning eye-glasses.

Thanks for the posts.

Exactly - that's a very good way to put it. I'll use that comparison myself in future if I may: thank you.
