I notice what appears to be a bleed through effect - when using alternate tunings the original tuning (EADGBE) can be heard as well

I'd contact someone who knows more

I haven't had that problem with mine. You could be hearing the signal from the regular pickups overiding the modeling pick up. Take it to your local authorized Fender repair person and let them listen to it. My VG just has a voracious appetite for AA batteries.

Its similar to a problem on channel switching amps where the controls of one side effect the other. I think the OP is hearing a different tuning to the one he is using, as well as the one he's using coming through the amp.

If so its obviously a software problem if fender dont offer online updates for the guitar to sort it out i'd take it back (limited lifetime guarantee)

If it's doing what mine does. it is bleeding through when the vol knob is rolled to zero.

On mine you can hear it through the amp plain as can be. I got mine yesterday - it's going back where I bought it tomorrow

I've had 2 vg's and I don't notice what you say about the bleed through,as to the post about eating batteries, read the manual and get some ni-mh rechargeable batteries in the 2600-2700ma range and a good charger as well as a spare set so you always have a charged set on hand, these last about 6-8 hours of play time while cheapo no name alkalines last about 1.5 maybe.cheers

That;s good to hear. My son just bought a VG, and I'm concerned the bleeding was a common thing.

He just played it live today, and it worked flawlessly :D

I have one, and I haven't had that problem. I don't use the alternate tunings much, but I'm sure that I would have noticed.
