The American Standard is made in the USA and has some extras and the Standard strat is made in Mexico thus the price difference. You can look at the specs and cost of both on this site, Hope that helps you!

almost every shop I have ever purchased anything at will price match to them. I guess a real small, local shop may not. But mine does, so you'll just have to ask.

great airline friendly hardshell case,
superior electronics, w/ better fit &
finish most notable on the neck.

The standard is assembled in Mexico,
is a great guitar at about 1/2 the bucks
Many are super happy with their mex
guitars. You shoud play both and see
what fills your needs.

Pricing is a bit of a rollercoaster these
days with many dealers instituting the
new Fender price increases along with
offering last years prices, your gonna
have to do you shopping homework.
