The 1997 American Standard Stratocaster I just bought off of the worlds largest garage sale(Ebay). Has something about it that seems unoriginal to me.
The picguard is not original for sure but thats cool i like it. The thing is 97's are supposed to have TBX tone control which has a detent this does not and the pickups have a black bottom thats kinda textured like. and last the wires are a wax potted cloth(except for the black and white ones to the jack which are the usual plastic coated) does anyone know if these are stock or something else?
thanks

my digi camera took a crap a year ago and I haven't replaced it I should. my phone cam takes lousy pics. I think the reissue pickup theory is good, plus I wonder did fender do a reissue in 97/98? the reason I ask is the pickups and in the back cavity in bold black marker it says 62.well mine couldnt be a reissue as it has the swimming pool route and the 2pin tremelo so it must just be replaced pickups

You got lucky on that one. They likely don't archive their specs beyond a certain date. When Guitar Center offered an FSR VG Strat last year, I received the same detailed response. It's great when the have the info.

Very lucky indeed. The texas specials may have been swapped out for a vintage replica set. Just a nagging feeling but i dont recall tex specials having 62 written on the bottom of them. Pickups are highly subjective and if they sound good i wouldnt worry about it.

You got a keeper there mate. Drive her nice.

Absolutely. I applied for customshop after care on one of my guitars lastnight despite buying it secondhand. They accepted despite Fenders non transferable limeted guarantee.
Notice too that FMIC specialists within certain fields are taking a proactive role on some parts of these forums. You cant beat service like that.

Please dont go emailing Brad about guitars and amps though. His expertize is in computers and just playing the guitars.

Roger that...and Brad will also be interested in knowing anything you become aware of which might be fraudulent or compromising the integrity of the brand or trademarks of FMIC...such as that neck plate fiasco. That matter was turned over to legal. That kind of monitoring protects the interests of all of us worldwide
