Anyone use these? What type od sound do you get from the different colours? The fender site does not tell you a lot. Thanks.

Also - Dimarzio true velvets. Any info on those.

Personally, I use the lace golds. The colors represent the pickup's output level. Gold 5.8K, Silver 7.1K, Light Blue 8.0K, Burgundy 8.9K, Blue 12.8K, and Red 14.4K. Obviously the higher the number the higher the output and the hotter the sound.

As for Dimarzio True Velvets, these are very unique pickups. They are tailored to give you sweet highs and balanced low end and midrange. The only issue I've found with this is when using overdrive or distortion, the chords do not ring out balanced and the highs dominate the sound. Great pickup for lead though.

Thanks for the info - I guess the Dimarzio's are not what I am looking for. I want a higher output pickup for smoother overdrive for more rock sounding tone.

I'm thinking of getting another Strat - American standard in charcoal grey and keep it pretty much stock for blues style sound.

Right now I have a MIM standard in midnight wine.

I've got Lace pickups on my 1998 Strat Plus and love 'em.

One big advantage over regular pickups is that because teh don't have a permanent magnet they don't have the same damping effect on the strings that most pickups do. This means you can adjust the pickup closer to teh strings (more output) without it reducing sustain.

My Strat Ultra came stock with blue, gold, and two red Lace Sensors. The best attributes are that they are noiseless and have great sustain. The Red sensors are in the bridge position, in a 'dually' arrangement; I have stock 3-way toggle switch that selects each pickup or both. The pickups remain articulate even with distortion; its a sweet dirty sound to me. I've never had an urge to replace these pickups. They are versatile and sound good in blues, smooth jazz, and distorted rock. You still have the classic strat sounds in the 2nd and 4th positions, though.

My 88 strat plus has the 3 lace gold which have a real sweet sound but for any real heavy rock you have to gain the christmas out of the amp but they sound great. I also have in one of my Peavey Falcons the Fender lace red in the bridge position and its got a real nice hot output and still sounds that chimey strat tone, very much dig it.

Do a Forums 'search' on Lace Sensor pickups. We have had so many threads on this, you'll find enough information to keep you reading through the end of the year and beyond.

Doc
