I bought a mexican made fender strat a couple years ago and i liked it so much i have decided to get an american made strat. What I was wondering is what are some of the really good american strats for under or around $2,000 that are good for blues and rock music?

They're all good!

It just depends on what you like. Big frets, little frets, thin neck, thick neck etc. Try a bunch of them out and get what's best for you.

Strats are very versatile and with your budget you will definitely end up with an amazing guitar. Go to www.guitarcenter.com and look at the different models of American Strats and educate yourself of the difference - ask yourself if you really want to pay more for something like an S-1 switch, or if you can live without it, what configuration you want, etc etc.

But..act quickly and try to save yourself the $300 from the price increase..

Having fun testing out the guitars =)

Check out the Highway 1 models.. MIA and pretty inexpensive... Perfect for modification (Floyd) as they don't cost a million dollars.. Look great also

Welcome!

This subject has been covered if you do a little research.

In a direct answer to your question, no. The nut and the bridge must also be modified at the very least to accomodate.

I have an American Deluxe strat that I use for blues and rock, and I love it. It's under $2,000, but the price just recently went up by about $300. It has the S-1 switching, and the pickups are a bit different than a classic strat, so make sure you play one to know if it's really what you're looking for in sound.

Take a look at that Hot Rod '57 Strat. Sexy best can rock, shred, and be blue.
