i hated how strats looked. i hated them.

but a few years after I started playing, I was in the shop, waiting for my friend to buy whatever he was looking for, and I decided to play around with a marshall amp. And the only guitars around were strats. so I plugged one in, and quickly realized that the strat sounded pretty damn good. and the neck felt really good to play. and the body was nice and comfortable to play on.

so after that, I decided that I needed one. I wasn't able to get one for about a year after that, but eventually, I got it. and that was about 4 years ago.

now i've got a telecaster and a jazzmaster too.

The first half of the logic here is undenyable. Yet, the part about the Telecaster throws me as it relates to Stratocasters.

To me the only guitars that I look and I want to have is the Stratocasters and the Les Pauls! anything else just doesn't click on me!

I bought a Strat because that was the type of guitar that Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, and Robin Trower played.

They are comfortable to play (body shape), cheaper than a Gibson Les Paul and I feel they are versitile in being good azes for all different kinds of music - plus I like having a tremelo system.

To be honest, the first thing that drew me to a Strat was the look and once I picked it up and played it, the thing that caused me to buy it was the comfort. You can play 'em all day without shoulder or neck problems and they feel like an extension of your body. Quite the opposite of the LP I had at the time (and later sold to help finance my Am Std 8)).

My first guitar was a Strat knock-off, and that made me feel like a bastard, so that kinda fueled the desire. It wasn't until I had the money, went to Sam Ash and played about 4 guitars that I settled with the Strat. The Tornado and Deluxe Tele put up a fight, but the SG lost right away. The Strat felt, sounded, and played just right.

That's because it doesn't. You're having a little problem with extrapolation.

looks and feel first. then the sound took me away. also I knew if I never played again (which I doubt) I could also hang it on my wall as a beautiful piece of art.

x2.

I'm not going to name them all lol, but that was primarily it. I figured there has to be something to this guitar if everyone I like uses one so I tried on out and loved it!

Aside from that, just the look, tone and feel of it. It's like stepping into a warm tub of water :)

While stationed in Germany a buddy of mine bought a strat for his father for Christmas. He was not aware his mother had already bought his dad a guitar..My friend was stuck with a guitar he did not really want for himself as it was purchased as a gift. He was out the money he paid for it and was feeling real down. He played Jackson and did not care for the strat. He offered the guitar to me for sale and feeling sorry for him I purchased it from him..I had always been a Gibson owner and never owned a strat. Being in the military far from home I did not have my Les paul in country with me but did have a Yamaha Acoustic. I had hooked up with a group and we did gigs around playing Country music..I had got tired of micking my acoustic all the time so an electric made sense to me at the time. I figured at the time a Strat would be great for country so somehow I justified it to myself I should buy the guitar..I soon found out the Strat excelled in more that just country the price was right and the rest is history…

I got one because of the many classic tunes they're used on and because I'd decided to try more rock-a-billy, country and "pickin'" in general when I got back into music a few years ago. Back in the late 60s and 70s, I went almost exclusively with a stock rock sound.

The second factor was that I could almost get a Strat and a Tele for the price of one LP or SG, and you can't beat that deal.

Finally, there are the comfort and weight factors. The Strat body design works well enough with my body design.

I have alway liked the look and sound of Fender Stratocasters. Each one is different in it's own way, but I guess every guitar is that way. I also like how Fender appeals to the "working man" in attempting to keep their prices down as much as possible.
