I was just in my room and I realized that I already have enough little odds and ends to start a strat project. I have some pickups, pots and a five way switch from a trade, knobs from my Fender, and a whammy bar that won't fit in either of my Strats. The main two things that I'm looking out for are the body and the neck. I don't know about ebay and craigslist, you can never know whether or not the seller is trustworthy. I know about Warmoth, but I'm after something cheaper. I'm probably going to use it as a backup/beater or for alternate tunings. I'm also going to use it for experimenting with my soldering/relicing skills. So right now, step 1 for me is gathering resources and learning. Where are some places I can go online to find instructions, tips and cheap parts? What are your own guitar project experiences? What did you do right, and what did you wish you had done differently?

There's lots of info on the web (of course), try www.projectguitar.com

As for cheap parts, one mostly unknown place is grizzlyindustrial.com get their catalog and see all of the guitar parts. Check out here.

I am in the process of building one and since it is not finished yet I cant guarantee the results but I can give you some insights. I purchased last year a Squire 50s Vibe as the platform for this project. The guitar finish and playability were awesome from the start, that is why I kinda delayed the project until now. Neck and body are awesome I did not think I can get this quality for the $300 bucks. The body is 3 piece alder routed ssh with plenty of heft and cavities are painted with the special conductive paint. Body size and weight seems to be matching 09 MIM (it is all metric, US hardware with imperial measurements will not wok on this one). Hope this helps

If you take some time to look, you will find what you are looking for on craigslist or ebay. Good luck
