The custom shop are making hints at a townsend strat being released. Gheck the ask Mike Eldred thread in the CS section.

Hi Niki: yeah, it's been mooted for a long time. It's a tricky one, in as much as it is essentially a Clapton Signature model with the addition of the piezo bridge and the extra knob to control it. A signature version of a signature guitar...

On the other hand, at the moment "hybrid" guitars seem to be all the rage, and Townshend has been using his for longer than most. Maybe it could be a seller for Fender - a thumb on the pulse moment.

I find it an interesting concept, though I'm a little uncomfortable about the placement and look of that extra knob. I could plump for it at the right price - not as a tribute to Townshend however much of a fan I am, but as a useful guitar in it's own right. However, price is everything, and I suspect that like the Gilmour this one is going to be beyond what I can justify.

...On the other hand, I have my own plans for a Strat with a piezo. Very different than Pete's guitar - I'm thinking about a standard five way switch selecting between the peizo and two P90s, feeding a mono output. And a chambered maple body with an Englemann spruce top, tarted up with some violin style black purfling.

And a fretless neck for slide...

This one's very much in it's early days on the drawing board - and may get no further. But it could make a fun thread later in the year, couldn't it...?

If it's a Townsend Strat, is it OK to steal it?

No. But you're allowed to throw it at his tech - who will then rebuild it for you...

Cheers - C

I guess you could bash hippies with it too.

Where's Neil when we need him?
