Not an actual debatable post here. I love the looks of a well used Strat, just don't wanna shell $900.00 for one. Since Squier introduced the 50's and 60's vibe Strats, maybe the could offer a reliced or worn model as well for under $500.00. Just a fleeting thought.

A Squier Road Worn really wouldn't make sense. A beat up "cheap" guitar isn't quite the same. Know what I mean?

You could just do what I did with my Preadator: buy it new and play the hell out of it for 13 years. :D

you could always buy a squier strat, and replace all the hardware and plastics with reliced ones. search google, and there are a few different companies that either sell reliced parts, or will age your parts for you.

you might end up having to age the neck and body yourself though. and the main issue with doing this to a squier is the finish that they put on the bodies and necks. its usually polyurethane, and its thick and doesn't wear out easily. so it is really hard to get a proper worn look with it.

The key to a good aging of a guitar is subtlety. You want the guitar to look like it aged naturally. Its hard to do this on a poly finish.

I second that notion.

amen.

I did it to a squier, (came out ok), but poly tends to chip instead of wear.

like such:

The Road Worns look aweful in pics, even worse in person. I'd take a well-worn Strat or Tele any day, but real wear...

Plus, nearly every Road Worn I've seen has been set up horribly.

Buy an relic body and neck on ebay and build one but it will cost you about 800 anyways.

When is Fender going to start selling aged knobs, bridges and tuners?! Now that they are on a sort of regular production line it would be great to see some reliced parts available from the source!

When are they gonna stop with the cheapo gimmicks, and maybe make some different guitars?

I would much rather Fender put the time and effort they put into making things look broken, into maybe making some different lumber. I'd rather see a re-issue of the Coronado, or the real Starcaster than see them drag a beltsander across the front of another guitar.

I can see it now.. Fender bridge $90.00 . Fender roadworn bridge.(same as the other, but exposed to acetone fumes to tarnish it.) $165.00

Then you'll get the same people coming in and telling us what a deal they got, and boy the rust sure makes it play better,

All the Road Worn series seems to be is MIM 50's and 60's Classics...if you like the look of an old beat up strat (I actually do), then pick up one of those and do it yourself. Save some bucks! 8)

That about says it for me 12b. Make us quality not gimmicks being sold on the public that have no real effect on playabilty except in the mind. Acoustic guitars better with age a solid body is what it is no matter how much some think it gets better being old or looking old when its not.. Marketing to the perception of the consumer.
