I'm a rock guitarist. Would like to change the pickups for my 97 Strat (the humming kills me). I want Fender pickups or Di Marzio. Don't want to sacrifice the sweet clean, but like heavy distorion. Maybe something that could go from blues to Metallica. Which ones should I consider???

I have a hot rails/cool rails/cool rails setup on one of my guitars and it is good for what you describe. Both hot rails and cool rails sound great with distortion and the cool rails is a sweet clean blues pickup. If you autosplit in the 2 and 4 position you get a decent hum cancelling strat tone. Not as good as the real thing but it is a good compromise.

I would take a look at whatever pickups are installed in the Suhr Strats. Their singles are pretty cool. Look for sound clips and look into their artists to see if they're getting the kind of sound you want to get.

Look up on youtube, guys like Guthrie Govan or Rob Marcello. They play Suhr guitars. Its a different brand from Europe like Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, etc.

Then google "Suhr Guitars."
