I find it strange that somebody would plunk down that kind of coin for a defective guitar and try to find a reason not to keep it like it's the only guitar in the universe that plays or sounds like that.

It's a MASS PRODUCED PRODUCTION GUITAR not a custom shop guitar.

This is so funny, then everybody gets their panties in a knot because they don't like what they hear. This is great stuff.

My point entirely. Strats are a much the muchness affair. You cant tell me everyone is individual at new when their machine made.

I should star a new business just telling people what they want to hear. It would be a real time saver. :D

Hahaha - but the problem is that at the beginning of this thread everyone thought they were telling the OP what he wanted to hear! We were all agreeing with his original diagnosis of the situation - which didn't seem to make him happy at all!!??

It might be possible that he did, in fact, get the message and accept the excellent advise given here. Maybe he has or will have his friend take the guitar back, but won't admit it now since it would mean eating a lot of crow.

Just another angle to contemplate.

I try. I like my Strat, but first, I only have one. I have a lot of other guitars and I find it redundant to buy a bunch of one model unless you have a lot of bucks to throw around, I don't care about color, the color has no effect on the playability or tone. Second, I won't buy a Fender signature guitar because I'd rather customize my own not pretend to mimic some so called guitar hero. All someone needs to do now is sell some songs, and be popular and bam, you get a sig guitar. Maybe he could get Eric Johnson to fix it for him. :D

I get the feeling that his friend or him was trying to sell the guitar to the other, thus the insistence of the gap being a good thing and no other guitar will ever sound as good. Might be wrong tho!

Or trying to justify it as a good buy to himself, which would explain the defensive/aggressive attitude. No answer other than 'yeah thats fine' would of kept him placid, thats for certain.

I guess that's what you get when you try to give an honest opinion. He's a rarity though so I'm still going to be as honest as I can to new posters. (and old ones too) :)

I'm the same way, I call em as I see or play em. Total honesty. I you don't want an honest answer or advise, don't ask. And don't get all defensive if somebody says something you don't want to hear. I'm too road worn (pun intended) to give sugar coated opinions.

His buddy might be having problems with it and is trying to unload the guitar on him too.

Supro. I purposely avoid answering certain posters for exactly the same reason. I dont believe in offering any information to someone who will argue the toss and soon ignore them. This wiseguy made the list. As soon as this thread dies, im getting a lot of enjoyment out of it his antics so far.

I still stand by my original assesment:
His buddy asked him if he thought it was a problem. he said no way. Went online expecting everyone to agree with him, so he could prove his opinion, and didn't get it.

Its a shame the OP chose guitar as his form of expression, they'd make a good comedian. Its no wonder the music industry is dying when you can get entertainment like this for free.

you notice i never slammed anyone for their personailty or anything not related to guitars which this forum is supposed to reference

go ahead and take personal shots at me again while i don't against you, not everyone said that it was a big issue, many folks have guitars with similar gaps or even worse and have never had issues - it is not a situation where there is a definite answer

so you know what Ceri - the only reason i even bothered to post the other view point or even question those who said take that shoddy trash back , don't settle for anything less than perfect etc. - is because it seemed that it wasn't 4 sure that it was a serious issue

should i have listened to a few people i don't know on a message board and drink the koolaid, def agree 100% w/o further questioning or asking others to contribute? i never once had any strong opinions about you guys especially on a personal level , i never once said anyone didn't know what they were talking about , i was wanting to get more opinions - as many as possible and hopefully from someone with repair experience - that was my main goal, it was my 1st time ever on this board, so i didn't know what to expect , it was great to get feedback from those of all levels but from a repair person would have been best - because most turned it into more of a subjective thing (the don't settle for less, take it back and keep going thru them etc.)

if you guys get your rocks off on forums and tearing folks apart then great, and if this is entertainment to you - then that's just ....

dude i never expected everyone to agree with me - unlike everyone else i have admitted that my repair skills / knowledge is very low - i just play

all i did was try to relay info from other forums to this one for everyone else's sake , for those that read this , may discover a pocket gap on their guitar or on a new one

the goal of this forum i would think is to help others (not rip them apart)
