There was a show on "Paladia" tonight about artists from '64-'73. Of course Jimi Hendrix was one that they showed. I noticed a couple of things about his Strats that I thought I would mention.

Trem cover (back plate) off.
5 Springs.
Pups were down almost even with the pickguard.
One of his Strats had a Tele neck.

Unusuall that he lowered the pickups so much. Maybe he did it to help his volume control cleanup whilst using fuzz and the amps gain.

Yea, I've seen a few pics of him with them. He had a Jazzmaster too from what I've read.

Hendrix used a Gibson Flying V quite a bit at the latter part of his life. I wonder what recordings were done with his painted V?

Axis is said to be recorded with a bassman and P90/trem equipped flying V. The gibson replica is of a later guitar that he used for rainbow bridge and has regular gibson buckers.
That should get the strat owning littlewing devotee's reeling.

Yes jimi used a flying v at a time. he also handpainted it which made it look badass as hell. Jimi was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. R.I.P Jimi

Dolly Dagger was done with his hand painted (by Jimi) Gibson V.

jimi was known to make small slits in his forehead and dip his headbands in LSD before shows

Hi yodacaster: if they were staggered pickups then after Jimi had restrung a right-handed guitar to play left-handed the pickups would be upside down in relation to the thickness of the strings. Therefore you'd want to turn the pickups the other way up along with the strings.

I don't actually know whether he did that but very happy to believe it if someone says so.

I've also heard plenty of theorizing on the tonal consequences of stringing a guitar upside down. I'm less easily convinced on that...

Cheers - C

I like to keep my pickups really low too. They seem to make a little less noise this way and also are more responsive to pick dynamics (harder or softer picking will yield much different tones).
