[quote="cvilleira"]265.00 and counting. How do you like the seller saying it is a maple neck which is nicer then rosewood. Boy if that isn't subjective and like your targeting a bunch of no nothing booblewonks [/quote

No doubt, I dont think the seller realizes that a rosewood neck is a maple neck, with a rosewood cap.
BTW. Anyone looking to buy on Ebay should be aware; allot, not all, but allot of "new" guitars, or used 2009 guitars, that sell get sold for lower than normal ebay prices (which are too high most of the time), were factory B-stocks, or "scratch-n- dent" specials. Not that they're really bad, they may just be a little blemished. But, if it's something you forsee selling later down the road, you may want to confirm before you put in a solid bid. Allot of factory Bstocks will say B stock somewhere on them, and this will lower any trade in or re-sale later down the road. Just like a really nice and seemingly mint car that has a salvage/ or rebuilt title will.

It does look to be a good guitar but i wouldnt trust buying off the internet. Ur never gonna know if u like it until u bought it. what i would do is go up to a guitarcenter and grab all kinds of guitars, not just strats, and start playin em. soon enough ull find one u rele like. good luck on ur buy

A word of caution Ihave seem a few mim squire strats sold on e-bay as new mim guitars because the new fender script is the same as the old squire I'm not saying that guitar is that appears to be a nice guitar I would suggest putting your hands on the guitar you intend on buying !! inspect the neck body joint and nut on mim guitars q.c varies wildly on these as does sound quality and setup

Hi, Im considering buying a new stratocaster guitar... I am looking at the standard model.. is it good ?
so far I have my eye on this one on ebay... i hope it doesnt go up over my budget...

http://cgi.ebay.com/FENDER-STANDARD-STR ... 3:1|294:50

is this one good?

Well as other's have already eluded, this is a mid range, MIM Strat. They are pretty decent instruments...I would expect that at some point you would want to change the pickups and probably the trem block but otherwise, they are typically very playable.

Now as others have also indicated, this instrument is NOT going to "go for cheap". Despite the hype that seems to border on belligerent and insulting, I would venture this instrument is probably going to go for around the $400 - $450 range if not just a bit more. It's a nearly new instrument that now goes in stores for $550 (even though I'd bet the seller only payed $400 for it). Right now this instrument is only at $265 but watch that bidding in the last 10 minutes...it's going to take off. Personally I wouldn't chase it. If you are really looking for a Standard, then I would actually look for a used one on Craigslist or something instead.

Now I also have to say here...since you were asking if this is a "good" instrument, one could easily get the impression that you probably don't know a lot about Fenders or even guitars in general? If that's the case, I would also suggest that you NOT buy a guitar from Ebay...go to a store or buy a used instrument from someone local so that if there is a problem you will have someone you can turn to. -If- this is perhaps your first electric, you may even wish to look at something like a Squire Standard or something instead until your playing skills improve. Either way I would suggest that you do a little more research before you decide to buy anything...an "educated consumer" is going to make a better choice regardless of the playing skills and won't have to ask "is this a "good" guitar?". There is -A LOT- of information on the internet alone about Strats...it shouldn't be too hard to educate yourself :D.

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

Hi SonicMaster. Windwalker made a good point a few posts back:

You gotta wonder why someone is selling a brand new Strat a couple of weeks after buying it, having - he claims - only played it once. What's that all about? Fella just likes donating his money to guitar shops?

There's more here than meets the eye, either what windwalker says or something similar. Doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it, but just don't get carried away with the last second bidding. Set yourself a moderate limit, and if someone beats you on it you may not have lost out...

Cheers - C

It seems a lot of guys do pretty quick turnarounds.

Maybe the dude got it cheap and is hoping to get a $20 profit (or something like that).

Maybe. He'd need to have got a heck of a deal on it to make it worth the effort - and risk.

Perhaps he works in a guitar shop and can purchase with an employee discount.

What's the street price on this Standard? Build in the $40 shipping: there's a natural ceiling on this auction. Comes a point where bidders just decide to go buy it in a shop instead...

You know the drill. The sellers want either 1) buyers who don't know the actual street price, or 2) get caught up with the thrill of the chase.

(Gotta love Motorhead.)

Didn't Fender just go thru a rather hefty price increase? Maybe the guy snagged it at the old price of $400 and now that they go for $550...even if someone does allow for the $30 shipping (which many folks don't...not everyone is that smart on Ebay), the guy could still turn up to $100 profit.

Being a photographer, I see this all the time with camera gear. Canon for example had some really big rebates and discounts last year...a lot of folks bought 2 or 3 cameras such as the 40D then after the rebates and discounts ended, dumped the extra cameras on Craigslist or Ebay for close to normal retail.

Nothing really wrong or illegal about it...as long as they're not selling them as "new" or misrepresenting themselves as an authorized agent or anything, a person can sell whatever they want for however much they think they can get for it. There's a guy here in Cleveland right now who's had an ad on Craigslist for a "Gilmore Strat"...right in the ad he states that it's an MIM Standard and not actually a Gilmore Signature...he only did the Strat up to look like a GS....he's asking $1500 for it! In this case most folks who know anything at all about Strats will just laught their a@@'s off, but there could be some newb out there who's a real Pink Floyd fan that looks at the cost of a genuine GS then sees this thing and thinks it's a bargain. I saw another one a while back that was advertised as a "Hendrix Strat"...someone took a white MIM or something, slapped one of the engraved Hendrix neck plates from Ebay on it and same thing...asking a really outrageous price.

It really just comes down to "buyer beware". The more informed you are as a consumer, the easier it is to make smart purchases.
