When I got mine in 85 I was young and dumb. I Just thought a strat was a strat and a pickup was a pickup. Did not know they made different ones! :? I was shocked when I saw Made in Japan on it and came real close to removing it! Live and learn huh?

I used to hear that all the MIJ's were crappy. SURPRISE!!!

Not at all! The MIJ's were made on the same machines that made the original instruments back in the 50's and 60's. If anything, the MIJ re-issues are more accurate than the MIA ones up through '98 or '99! (according to a Fender field rep we had at the time).

Yeah, but you'll notice he had to put the cookies back on the menu. Due to popular demand, I believe.

I'm not sure I'd come over to the dark side if there weren't any cookies...

Though you know what: it's a long time since I had burritos. Suddenly got a taste for 'em. Hmm - better where you are, no doubt, but we've got a little place in town...

Where's my car keys?

Cheers - C

Gotta love the MIJ Strats from the 1980s. I got my first E series Strat new in 1989, a 72 RI. LOVE IT!!!
My latest purchase was a used E series Squire Strat from 1987. It seems as tho Fender Japan was making Strats of very high quality and putting Fendr and Squire names on them. The Squire is every bit as good as my Fender. I am curious to know the story behind those 1984-87 E series Strats.
The Squire was in need of some work when I bought it for $80 with a Fender rect. case and original owners manual. She now has a new vintage USA bent steel saddle trem from GFS, some new pots, and it plays really nicely. The sound from those pickups is so good, I won't be replacing them, which for me is rare. I usually like to swap out stock pickups, but I will leave those MIJ units in there. Image
