Chet, I know you can't beat the necks and the bodies on 85 to 87 MIJ strats but what type of pups are on the originals and do you still have them installed? I have no idea what the pups on my 85 are!

The pups in the '72RI are not stock, they had been replaced before I got it. They are now WCR SR's.
The pups in the '68RI are the originals. I don't know what they are, but they sound awesome.

Mine are the original single coils too! Like you say, they sound great just like an OG strat should!! Has never been opened up.

I didn't even see any markings on the pups in my '68RI

When I got mine in 85 I was young and dumb. I Just thought a strat was a strat and a pickup was a pickup. Did not know they made different ones! I was shocked when I saw Made in Japan on it and came real close to removing it! Live and learn huh?

I used to hear that all the MIJ's were crappy. SURPRISE!!!

I don't know but I've been told mine has a 57 neck on it. Would not surprise me because when I've had it looked at by 2 different techs they both told me the same thing, In fact when I bought my 07 Deluxe strat I took it back to the shop and complained and asked how a $300 MIJ played better than the Deluxe. Of course it had not been set up correctly and it shamed the guy so much that he sent it to a well know tech in the tri-state area(free of charge) and it came back perfect but I would not say better!
