Post subject: Kluson style tuners problem

This might have been addressed elsewhere but I couldn't find it....
Anybody got tips on dealing with binding or tight Kluson style tuners? Does string gauge matter or ? I've got an SRV Strat and a MIM Deluxe series (Deluxe Players?) Strat and both have Kluson style tuners and both seem to be developing tension/binding problems. I'm a wuss and use light gauge (.009's) strings. Could the nut be an issue? I'm no expert so I'm asking before I do anything drastic. Any ideas?
