all that is there is whats left of sticker glue...no serial #. There is no sign of it being sanded off or refinished.

You've got me confused now. That "blackish" area on the back of the headstock isn't a number underneath the clear coat? That's where the serial number would be. They don't use stickers for it. Is there something under the "sticker glue"?

Hmmmm, think, why would someone obliterate the serial number off of a nice, valuable guitar, an American Strat? Hmmmm, did you get a real good price on it? From the boot of someone's car, perhaps?

I really think this comment was way out of line...I bought this guitar from a friend and it was not a back door deal! "obliterate" is not the word I would use to describe the back of the headstock. I am definitely not a strat expert but I am a carpenter and know when wood has been tampered with...this guitar doesn't show any signs of that. I'll take full responsibility for putting up a low quality picture...but please keep judgemental comments to yourself.

Trust me mate to get through that polyurethane finish on the neck a fair bit of obliteration needs to take place. He's certainly not being judgmental just speaking from a knowledgable perspective.

I have not passed judgement on that guitar, yet. Check out what a real serial number looks like by clicking here. Fender did use the position where your serial number seems to have been.

As for offending you, I apologize, but I do note that you brought up suspicions with your very first post:

Need some help identifying the year this strat was made and in fact if it is in fact authentic.

What does your friend say it is?
