First...thanks so much for everything I have picked up and learned during the last 2 months of my lurking here. This forum is great. :)

I have been getting back into playing after a much too long hiatus and over the past 2 months purchased a new MIM HSS Standard Strat which I absolutely love. I got it just before the price increase so I feel even luckier, but would have paid the new price without hesitation. This guitar is great.

I have also spent some time upgrading a 1993 MIK Fender Strat Squier Series (somewhere between a Squier and an import strat I think). Now I'm thinking I'd rather have a MIM Tele (gasp...or SSS MIM Strat) for a 2nd guitar and really have no idea what this guitar might be worth in trade or sale. Here are the specs:

SSS Fender Strat Squier Series made in Korea, 1993
Black plywood body with 21 fret rosewood fretboard/maple neck, white 3 ply (white/black/white) pickguard in excellent condition
Copper tape shielded cavity/pickguard
Completely rewired with new GFS 250K pots, new cap, new 5-way switch and input jack
New GFS Premium Vintage Alnico Pickups
New Wilkinson Gotoh style tuners
New hardware - strap buttons, string trees, screws, etc...

I really like how this guitar sounds now, but to be honest don't see myself playing it all that much with the new MIM HSS at the ready all the time and would like to get a "2nd guitar" that is a little more varied in sound...so, I'm looking for suggestions re: trade and/or asking price for sale. Thanks again for all of your help.

you might have more luck stripping the parts and selling them seperately rather than advertising it or trying to sell it as a squire.

In the uk they were £200 new. Mine is a 95 MIM squire series and after many years of play as comfortable as my customshop. Theres very very little information on the guitars. Notable resources that i contacted about mine know nothing about them. To quote a reputable uk dealer when i tried to find out about the trem, 'thats a very rare guitar, weve never come across them before'. Certainly the neck is a very underrated component of the guitar, trem and tuners are junk. From what i can gather they were used to bolster sales and output from new factories. The mexican ones of the early 90's used corona bodies and necks with squire hardware. Certainly ensenada weren't producing necks at the time. Whether Korea were is a different matter. As the shipping costs from california to korea would be astronomical its unlikely to be a usa neck. More likely to be japanese or indeed korean manufactured. I'd take a good hard look at that heel and QC sticker upon it. It could even be squire made.

Your never going to get what that guitar is worth. £100-£150 max in the uk, where prices are considerably more than the usa. If your in the uk i'll buy it off you or swap a MIM baja tele for it. Email me
nikininja@ntlworld.com if thats the case.

Agreed.

Even though some Squiers can be transformed into superior playing guitars, there is no tangible market value for them nor will you ever recoup any of the money back you invested into upgrading them.

You should just keep it. Especially considering you've put that much work into it. The Squier series Fenders are beasts, they hold up really well and can take a heck of beating. Besides, the SSS to HSS switch you'll come to enjoy- being able to swap guitars for different sounds, etc. Think about it.
