I agree with chet, but I have to say that John Frusciante has definatly earned one in my book!:D

And a limited edition Jimi Hendrix (allthough I wouldn't be worthy!! 8) )

Here's a great example:

I was just looking thru the new Musicians Friend catalog and saw a Gibson Les Paul Junior going for $750. Just below it was a Billy Joe Armstrong Les Paul Junior going for....$1500!!!!!!! Twice the amount!!!!

The difference? The plain jane Junior comes with a gig bag and a nice P90 pickup. The Armstrong model comes with a less desirable P100 and a hardshell case. Thats it. That better be one damn fine hardshell case!

Now thats a ripoff!!!!

I bought an EJ because it's a great freakin guitar. Not because I'm a fan. I'm not. I don't have any of Eric's music.

I think buying a guitar because it's got a name you like on it is ridiculous. The funny part is....the person who has a named guitar usually got famous by playing a regular, everday guitar.

Get the regular guitar and save a few bucks.

We have a winner! I also have an EJ and the only song of his I know/own is Cliffs of Dover. His sig Strat was far and away the best one that I tried the day I bought it. It played and sounded so perfectly I wouldn't have cared if it had Osama's name on the headstock.

Yeah man, I don't care who's names on it...the EJ is just one great guitar. I've played Custom Shop guitars that weren't as tonally beautiful. As far as I'm concerned, you can't get a better strat right now....for any price. By the way, try using a BBE Sonic Maximizer at the end of your effects chain. It makes the EJ just ring like a harp.

Bring back the Ritchie Blackmore Strat in a more affordable format then the former Custom Shop model @ $4,000, and you have a winner. Mr. Ritchie Blackmore is a living legend, who, was one of the pioneers of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Unlike many of his era, he has never stopped growing a guitar player and artist. If anyone deserves a signature guitar, Mr. Blackmore has more than earned his name on the headstock of a Fender Strat.

What a great idea. Even a guitar that's build into his specs (the woods, headstock, scalloped/big frets) without his signature on it could be great.

As a proud owner of an EJ Strat, I gotta' agree with this particular model being one of the few that's equal to the initials it bears ... I too did not purchase the EJ simply because I love EJ's tone and panache ... It is simply one fine instrument ...

IMHO, Signature models should carry over into the instrument any modifications or special details that the namesake uses in his or her own instruments ... I know the EJ model was designed and is constructed with this in mind ... WIth that said, I stilll made several of my own mods to my EJ Strat (isolating grounds, proper shielding, etc.) ... These mods do not affect tonal qualities whatsoever, as long as they are performed correctly ... I firmly believe they actually enhance the playability of the instrument ... One of these days, we're going to see Fender actually offer a modified wiring configuration that "Quiets the Beast" ... When they do that, you can put Mickey Mouse's signature on it for all I care ...

I would rather just see the company put forth a great straight forward high quality guitar. Guitar heros and all aside. Just a finely tuned axe with maximum tone and playability. Thats what I want no exotic woods, now don't get me wrong the woods must be of the utmost tonally and real inlays not plastic. Great ebony fretboard, extreme emphasis placed on neck fit and fret placement. I guess this leads into a really good subject for a post. "Design the ultimate guitar" probably been done.

I heard a rumor that Fender will be putting out a David Gilmour signature strat in 2008. I think this guitar is way past due. It should have the switch that connects the bridge and neck pickup just like he has.

The only other play that would desereve a signature strat is.............nope, that's the only one I can think of.

Design and buid your own signature madel. I've done that and it only cost me about $800.

I've got another one in the works.

I agree that there are a lot of models out there and I wonder why. The EJ is a great guitar and every neck is different.

I love my EC Strat and it is very special.

Ok, I'm not a fan of signature guitars but.....

Pete Townsend has been using strats for many years. I know he's got a signature SG, but he hasn't used an SG for a long time.

Considering some of the "johnny come lately's" to have their own strat, I'd think having a Pete Townsend strat would be a no brainer and a great seller.

Any comments?

The Fender guitar already has a signature ''FENDER''.

Why pay more because some dude plays a Fender like me?
Even if his name is EC, EJ, JH, RB, JB, BG, SRV, JLV, RG, RC etc.
Why the relic signature guitars ?
Just make your fENDER your signature guitar.
