My personal opinion on this subject is that there aren't any current players that have earned having a guitar named after them, and that includes some that already have.

That was the most intelligent thing that anyone could've said in this thread.

Way-to-go Chet :D

I also believe over half the signatures weren't earned and most of the players aren't deserving of a signature. I realize guitar companies have money to make and this is just one way for them to do it, but a player pops up on the scene and with alittle success, usually after 5 years he's sporting a signature guitar.

I think it's disrepecting the artists (the legends) who have actually earned their signature.

But that's just my opinion.

most signatures aren't a whole lot different than normal models.... a few modifications and their name slapped on it warrants a large price raise? i usually don't think so... i don't mind so much the buddy guy strat since it isnt too much, but most seem like money making ploys.... like if there were a goo goo dolls signature in whatever brand he plays, i'm sure slide3 or i lovegoo would buy it based on him playing it, even though it most likely isnt much better..... just my thoughts

Bring back the Ritchie Blackmore Strat in a more affordable format then the former Custom Shop model @ $4,000, and you have a winner. Mr. Ritchie Blackmore is a living legend, who, was one of the pioneers of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Unlike many of his era, he has never stopped growing as a guitar player and artist. If anyone deserves a signature guitar, Mr. Blackmore has more than earned his name on the headstock of a Fender Strat.

I bought an EJ because it's a great freakin guitar. Not because I'm a fan. I'm not. I don't have any of Eric's music.

I think buying a guitar because it's got a name you like on it is ridiculous. The funny part is....the person who has a named guitar usually got famous by playing a regular, everday guitar.

Get the regular guitar and save a few bucks.

^ agreed...another 1000 dollars for a guitar with their name on it won't give you their tone much better... get a standard guitar, and you could probably put in even better pickups with that 1000 dollars instead of getting the sig... i think most of your tone comes from amps and pedals, not from overly expensive guitars

^ i doubt many people would buy it, plus, why would anyone buy it if he uses an american standard, is there any need to make a signature which costs so much more when there is really no need? just a thought

I agree that most of the current signatures weren't really deserved!
but I would love to see a Trevor Rabin Signature strat!
Even though he is more involved in movie scores these days, he still deserves it, and it is a very sexy strat with all the graphics!

Awright, I'll stick my neck out here and say John Mayer. Not that he isn't a good guitarist or his sig Strat isn't any good, but jeez the guy hasn't turned 30 yet. Hasn't paid his dues. How can you compare him to Clapton, Beck, Guy, et al? It's all about marketing. Maybe Fender is looking to sell more of the expensive Strats to a younger, more affluent demographic. Just my two cents.
