JM is a celebrity guitar player, who now has a high profile, because of the women he cavorts with. He is the perfect guitar endorser, with a full head of hair, some talent, and a love of vintage period Stratocaster guitars. I know of other (perhaps better) Strat players who share the love of the vintage pieces, but will never have the buzz/notoriety that JM has. Besides, their wives would kill them if they strayed like JM does.

The world needs more 6k black guitars. Seriously.

Cluebomb: Buy a "regular" black guitar and play it as much as those other guys have and maybe Fender will sell a six thousand dollar guitar in your honor.

I watched a concert last night on an HD channel that was organized by Clapton and had the Police, Sheryl Crow, Mayer and other artists. They had an interview with Mayer and I could swear he said he was waiting for Clapton to pass him the mantle. Whatever. I am not ripping him because I think he is talented.

My question is during Mayer's part of the concert he brought out and played a gold metal flake strat. It looked like it had lace sensors for pick ups. No one ever talks about this guitar? But I am sure he has many others also.

When I hear something is good, I think "Compared to what?"

I was watching Youtube videos of Stevie Ray playing Hendrix the other day: Voodoo Chile, Little Wing, and something else. It was riviting!!! And then I stumbled across a video of John Mayer, John Frusciante and Derek Trucks, goofing off and doing some jamming. Frusciante didn't really do anything, Trucks was way cool with the slide, and Mayer worked out some, but it seemed so forced and much less skillful than SRV who is one with his machine. Not so sure he belongs in the pantheon of Jimi, Clapton or SRV. My 2 cents.

I know what you mean, I've seen that. It was like they just went "Oi, play some Blues, now". Seemed pretty boring. And the video was about them being Guitar Gods :? Pretty unimpressive really. :?

Also, to extend on that:

I watched a video of Mayer doing an interview, where he's asked about his relationship with his guitar, and he says they are the tools of his trade, he doesn't think anything special of them, they are just there to help him get the job done.

Whereas SRV, and others say that the Guitar is an extension of themselves, it allows them to express themselves fully - Jonny Marr said " When I play guitar, it feels more natural, than talking" - and he was in the Smiths - not exactly Guitar godly (even though he's up there).

Yeah

Ed
