I am beginning to wonder if I intalled my locking tuners correctly. Can anyone post a pic of their American Deluxe with the Fender/Schaller locking tuners? I especially would like to see a side veiw so I can see the heights of the tuning posts as they were put on from the company.

I have been on the net for 2 days now trying to get a close up shot and I have seen many different ways to stagger them. Thanks in advance for the help. RK

Are the non locking staggered height tuners on my CS guitar any good to you. If so i'll measure them and post the findings.

nikininja,

I am sure that would be beneficial as well. I was wondering if I have them on correctly and just needed to find out if I installed them correctly. The tuners I bought did not come with any instructions as to how to mount them.

BigJay,

I am not having any tuning issues per-say, just been second guessing myself on the placement of them when I installed them.

If what I am reading is correct, the higher height posts should be on the D, A, and E strings which is what I thought as well. So I have them on correctly.

With that being said, I have a Highway 1 Strat and it has 2 string trees in it. I am not using them, is that ok?

Like I said I am not having tuning issues, I just want to be correct on the way I have them mounted and using them as no instructions came with them.

Non locking. The measurements are
E&A 15/32 to the top of the peg.
D-E 11/32 to the top of the peg.

String trees are actually there for proper string tension, not tuning.

If that were true, and extra twist on the tuning peg would eliminate the need. They are for creating the proper break-over angle over the nut. This achieves tuning and intonation stability.

Yes, e.g. the Eric Johnson strat. It has the staggered tuners (non locking) providing the proper break angle over the nut, eliminating the use for the trees. I've checked these guitars out a few times and while I saw you mentioned you weren't having tuning issues, I gave it a thorough whammy work out and it didn't slip out of tune once.

Thanks for the pic Nikininja. That is about what mine look like on an angle.

Thanks BigJay for the tips, I use graphite on the nut and lube the contact points of my strings with every string change. I guess it doesn't matter whether I use the trees or not with the staggard tuners, I haven't been.

BTW I love the way new strings sound, and with as much as I have been playing I have been changing them about once a month.

this is NOT a factory install, but maybe it will help.

Thanks to everyone who has helped ease my mind. I had them on as BigJay described. I have not used my string trees since installing the staggered locking tuners, but if it doesn't, more stability is better.
