I'd like to start off by thanking everyone who contributed to my post entitled "Hi...and Help!" You guys really helped me make my decision. I have never been on a forum where everyone is so eager to help.

After checking out the guitar yesterday I decided to purchase it for $750CDN. I took it to the guitar store where it was purchased and showed them the guitar. I was delighted when they told me I got a great deal and its value will only increase.

When I brought it home I immediately took it apart. The guitar was filthy! I cleaned everything thoroughly, put everything back together, put new strings on and gave it a quick set up. The guitar feels brand new! Here are some pics.

I am worried about two things, however. The last tone knob seems to "lock" on zero. If I want to turn it I need to pull up on it slightly first. The previous owner said it might be dirty. What do you guys think?

The other problem seems to be the intonation. Every note above the twelfth fret on the bass strings seems to have a "chorus" sound to it. I tried adjusting the intonation and pickup height with no luck. What could be causing this?

I was going to suggest you pull the tone knob and contact cleaner spray the pot sparingly and work it back and forth and possibly it will free up.Pickup height adjustment would have been my starting point on the chourus sound but you've tried that to no avail. Can't help you there. Someone will chime in that has different suggestions before long. That's why this is such a killer forum. Lot's of knowledge and the love of sharing it. Mike

I'll third that. I have a love affair with olympic white. It's the only one I'll ever use. Although the temptation for SB is ebbing away at me....

When you threw a new set of strings on there, what gauge did you use? Assuming the previous owner replaced and stuck with the 9-42's that come standard from the factory, if you threw a set of 10-46's or any variation, it's going to throw everything out of whack.

I used the same brand and gauge that the previous owner used. When I play the twelfth fret on the low E string by itself, it sounds like I am hitting an E note against an F note. Although the sound produced isn't exactly that drastic, that's the best way I can describe it.

odd...

have you checked to see if all the frets are level? it could be in need of a fret dressing? short of that or a neck tweak, I don't know what could be causing that.
