I'm going to mod my 2004 american standard from SSS to HSS. I'm looking for a classic rock, hard rock and Metal tone from the bridge pickup. Does anyone have guidance to offer? I'm currently struggling with which pickup to buy

SD - Screamin Demon
or
SD - Pearly Gates
or
Dmarzio - Super Distortion

Is there any others to consider?

Welcome!

I've tried all three. The Screamin' Demon is right out as the frequency response is all wrong; it simply has no teeth and doesn't break up very well. The Pearly Gates is way too trebly with too soft a bass for a Strat. I'd go with the Super Distortion without hesitation as its got it all. I used to use SDs for many years doing the same types of music you do and they ALWAYS delivered.

Don't forget to get an "F" spaced one!

Anytime.

"F" spaced is the distance between the pickup's polepieces, side by side, designed for a Fender guitar's string spread.

Super distortion. Its one of those rare (for me at least) pieces of gear that just simply works and therefore has been in all my guitars for many years. It's not because theres some sort of incredible sound, magic, etc. They just work. I've tried many others but i always came back to the SD. and do you realize that the SD was the first aftermarket pickup ever?! Amazing. to this day it's still in production and sells well. That says a lot. I remember putting them in my '72 LP back in the late 70's.

Thanks for the info. Heading to Guitar Center today to buy one.. The Dimarzio SD is also 25 bucks cheaper than the Seymour Duncans.
