I am thinking about getting locking turners or going to bigger strings.
I play with light strings and some times thier hard to keep in tune. I don't really bend that much so I was wandering if I got a set of locking turners they would help my guitar stay in tune better. I have a Fatt Strat MIM that I really like. I have played a bunch of American Strats but none of them play as well as this MIM I have. Oh! I forgot. I am using Custom Light GBCL GHS BOOMERS round wond strings.

If you are having tuning issues putting on locking tuners may not help. Solve the tuning issues first!!!!, then if you still want locking tuners get them.

I like them for their convenience string changes are a breeze. Some don't like them as they do add a bit of weight to the head.

Stretch your strings properly and your tuning problems should go away.

Agreed. Stretch your strings out. Get the intonation set properly. Have the guitar looked at (if you can't do it yourself) by a tech before you spend money on a new set of tuners. I use vintage tuners, just a slot to lay your string in, and never have a tuning problem. The odds are it has nothing to do with tuners.

If you are going to use heavier gauge strings, you really don't need locking tuners. The heavier the gauge, the less likely the strings will go out of tune.

Exactly. Gut a properly cut nut, and your guitar'll stay in tune fine.

And pay attention to how the strings fold around the tuner when you wound the new stings on. Don't make it a mess, they should be wound on neatly.

I don't get this concpet with all the high tech looking stuff for your guitar, like floyd rose whammys, string locks and all of that. I think people will lose respect for the guitar when everything is high tech and custom made to keep the tuning. If you know what you're doing it will stay in tune!

I'll take some vintage Fender slotted tuners anyday over all that high tech stuff. A properly set up guitar stays in tune.

Oh yeah, fresh strings. Old stretched out strings with a months worth of finger gunk stuck under them don't help your guitar stay in tune. I change em once a week. $3 a week isn't much to invest to keep your guitar sounding crisp.
