Where's the 'echo_delta' tyin that I seem to be missing??

On the photos...they are certainly wonderful, however.....

....... I had those kind of seats at Madison Square Garden for the "From The Cradle Tour" and wound up with an 8'10' basketball center standing in front of me for the entire concert. Fortunately, the tour had received so much coverage on PBS, I had videotaped and archived everthing before the live performance so I didn't miss much.

This whole generational thing about standing is a bummer and I have a hard time investing my hard earned long green trying to appreciate a performance under those conditions.

A local music college does live performance offerings in their 300 seat auditorium. It is a converted middle school. I saw a Pink Floyd tribute band there last July. Everyone stayed on their buns, and a good time was had by all. Nothing like intimate venue and an appreciative audience....not that I can't appreciate the commeraderie which had to be present on the day represented in the photos.

Just my personal take on things...and...thanks for sharing.

Doc

Yep, Echo Delta is indeed me, Ed Mardell - about seven months ago I used to live at my family home and my brother got hold of my computer and started spouting a load of rubbish and got my account blocked. At the time I thought my computer had some sort of Trojan because he looked me in the eye and denied it. He later raised it and told me the whole story.

So yeah, this is me :)

Hello!

Yep, Echo Delta is indeed me, Ed Mardell -

We have been speculating on your whereabouts for some time now and it is good to know that you are well and back in the fold.

Keep your eyes peeled for communications from Ceri. He's raising a Phoenix from the ashes and we are all amazed at woodworking skills we never knew he possessed.

Doc

I appreciate that Doc thanks. Nice to know I've been speculated lol :) I just read that entire thread and all I can say is WOW. He's got skills.

Er, unless I'm missing something it seems ZZDoc has ESP. How on earth did you spot that, Doc? I am totally astounded!

Absolutely! Knopfler at Ronnie Scott's Club (approx 300, I'd guess) was one of my all time faves. He was due to play two one hour sets: came on at the start and three hours later was still playing. Every note crystal clear. Fingerwork observed from twelve feet.

It don't get much better! Though JJ Cale in a small club somewhere in Boston early '90s was right up there, too. Guitar playing with all the nonsense left out. One to tell the grandchildren.

On the Clapton show: my wife was very firm that our days of wrestling our way to the front and leaping up and down are behind us! I deeply envy those shots of Ed's - one to tell his grandchildren!

Cheers - C

You want to hear how I managed to get, and keep that spot. We arrived 3 hours early and had a picnic on the grass, using the loo often. We were let in at 1 I believe, and my girlfriend and I, absolutely pegged it to the front. The stewards told us not to run, but you know, we didn't care.

The most impressive thing is this. From 1pm, to 1am the next day, I didn't go to the toilet at all. I drank little, but just enough, and was bursting by the time the show ended. But then I got all syked up trying to catch the last train and didn't realise I needed to go until I got home (hour and a half's train journey).

My girlfriend went in the middle of Clapton's set and I was convinced she wouldn't get back to me (on the front row). However, she pushed through (apparently everyone was really sh*tty) and got back to me. Good girl.

Did you see that VIP stand? That was so far away!! People paid £150 for that ticket and I paid £45 and was literally 4 metres away. You can't beat that. The best gig of my life without a doubt.

PS I think Doc spotted the (c)ejmardell on the photos :)

Really? My wife got the tickets - is that all they cost? Good grief, seems I was too grateful...

Ah, life forming experiences. My father took me to my first rock concert: The Who in Kilburn, 1977. (He was still in his post-divorce "cool dad" phase...) Keith Moon's penultimate show - it's just come out on DVD.

However, even more memorable was a couple of years later on the first Who tour without Moon, me and my mate got to the very front but the edge of the stage was taller than we were. So we stood the entire night on upside down hard plastic beer glasses and just got our noses over the edge of the stage - right in between Pete Townshend's monitors. Felt like a private performance from three feet away.

That's the best gig of my life...

Cheers - C

PS Come to think of it, I have black and white 35 mm photos of that show somewhere. I must dig 'em out and post 'em...

Asked and answered, Ceri! Looks like we have old Ed back in the groove, five by five, right down the pipe!

Speaking of front row seats, see if you can search out the link I posted to WABC -TV piece on Les Paul's regular Monday gig at the Iridium in NYC, and see who had the front row one night. I hope it is still retrievable.:P

Ah, don't worry Doc, all the regulars have studied that piece of footage in very careful detail! With you in spirit on that one...

Thought Ed might enjoy the interview with him.

You guys on the other side really need to put together some change and come over here for that one before he decides to hang up his strings. :?

You can't imagine the number of Americans who went over for the Albert Hall reunion of 'Cream' and then did it all over again in NYC at the Garden

Doc

I will be at the Winwood/Clapton show in Chicago June 17th. Might take in the Chicago Blues Fest the previous weekend as well. It's one of the things on my "bucket list" lol

I've seen Clapton 4 other times. I saw him in 1979 with Muddy Waters in Tulsa, OK a few days after marrying Pattie. I then saw him on the Behind The Sun tour in Louisville, KY in 1985. Next was Crossroads Festival in Chicago in '07. Saw him again last year in Tampa. Never been disappointed...but the '79 show was pretty special.

I was lucky enough to be at Claptons Melbourne (Australia) gig last night, it was as expected simply fantastic.
I had seen him twice before and never been disappointed, the man can play.

The tickets were $200 (AUD) each for where we sat and worth every penny.

The highlight for me was when the band left the stage and Eric performed solo on an acoustic, pure magic.
:D :D :D
