i know a lot of you had tuning stability on your strats.i put a set on my amer.
series and my highway one strat and my tuning has improved a lot.i will be putting a set on my amer.standard fixed bridge strat also.all the years i been playing with standard tuning keys,i was always out of tune.i also relaxed my necks a little, due to always having played with straight necks.i also did some bridge work.hope this helps my fellow guitarist out there. :D

I have an original 72 Strat and never needed them I guess unless you have a Floyd Rose Trem. I have no tuning problems. A properly set up Strat with the strings properly stretched really shouldn't have tuning problems. I you put a little graphite on the nut, it will help the strings return to proper pitch when you bend them or use the whammy bar. Just my experience. YMMV

I never had any tuning problems either. I put Klusons on my mexican a few years ago and I still don't have any problems.

I couldn't agree more.

The pricier locking tuners are not necessary, but I like them for two reasons:

1. They really speed up a string change, especially on the trebel strings.

2. With the tuner end locked to the post, I only put on one or two full, around-the-post windings so I never deal with all that extra string relaxing over time and flattening the tuning.
