Hi folks,

Did I hear correctly (through the grapevine) that Fender are to release a 1957 Buddy Holly Strat replica ??

Don't think he owned a 57, but just wondered what the latest is and if there is a release of said model in 2009 ?

Cheers
Pete

ooooEEEEooo i look just like Buddy Holly!
OH OH and you're Mary Tyler Moore!
I don't care what they say about us anyway!
I don't care about that!

come on, i wasn't the only one who immediately did that in their head.

and as far as the RI...i really actually don't care about that. I don't think he could really give a good idea as to how it sounded in person, right? you know, cause he's been gone a while...

Buddy Holley owned a '54, '56, and '58(a replacement for his stolen '56).

He bought a strat in Detroit in the Fall of 57' so it could have been a 57'. Anywho where is this "grapevine" I keep hearing about? Did you notice Kline used the same word on this very topic on the Custom Shop Forum? hmm

I've never heard that! His '58 reportedly came from Manny's in NYC. That's the Stratocaster in the museum in Lubbock. BTW, it's the only 3-tone sunburst he ever owned. Didn't play it long, unfortunately!

bynapkinart - Was that in English ? sorry, but I can't make head nor tale of your sentence structure.

Don't know why Mary Tyler Moore (theme song) was mentioned, it was written by Sonny Curtis.

Looks like there's no official confirmation of the replica from Fender

Thanks for the replies

Actaully he owned three possibly four three tone '58's.
The one in the museum is the only one that wasnt stolen.
But no he never owned a '57 model.
Its not clear whether that one in all the famous photos-the two tone with the worn ceramic pick up covers that he played late '57 early '58- was the original bought by his brother Larry in 1955 or a replacement for it .

Until you know who is either deceased or otherwise forced outta the picture, I can't see Fender making a BH Stratocaster in his honor, or identifying him as the person who put the Strat on the world map, for that matter! :x

Are you referring to the guitar which the three are holding in the photo which graces cover of the first LP jacket?

On an added note, I would suggest that we all return to Kline's Custom Shop post in order to best centralize all discussion on this in that it is subject matter pertinent to that Forum. Otherwise we're going to have another Gilmour field day on our hands and be all over the map again.

Doc
