I was wondering if replacing the standard block on my MIM Deluxe Players with a Callaham steel block would make a difference in sustain even if the bridge is flush against the body. Thanks for your help.

Yes, it will.

It is especially effective if your current bridge block is made of non-ferrous metal (zinc based): if a magnet won't stick to the block, a Callaham upgrade will make an enormous difference.

If your Deluxe Players has the '06 upgraded bridge, I don't think it would make much difference. YMMV?

yeah I feel like a broken record for saying this...but the Callaham rocks, it adds sustain and brightens up the whole sound...the lows sound crisp and they growl, the highs are clear and loud, and the whole guitar basically ends up a little louder. for $60 there isn't a single thing I can think of that helps as much as a good block...including good PUPs.

plus, a maple neck w/ a callaham really gets nice and bright

I use a Gotoh vintage tremolo bridge with 250 grams steel block.
A real improvement in tone to my ears.

I used a GFS block. Nice improvement over the piece of cheese that was in there.

Nice! Glad to help!

Also, the upgrade of a trem block is way easier to do than pickup rewiring, as long as you know how to properly set the thing back up. My advice: take a lot of photos so that you can get a head start with the intonation.

I've already posted these recently, but here are some before and after pics I took when I installed it:

I just ordered the Callaham American Standard Premium Upgrade Kit which includes the Block, the arm, the saddles, 4 trem springs and all the necessary screws to mount everything. I have only heard great things about Callaham. I can't wait to get it. I just ordered it on monday so it should be here in a week or so.
